Job description

We are looking for the right people - people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.

About Landmark

Landmark, a Halliburton company, builds the software and data solutions that help the global energy industry make better decisions. Our products span subsurface interpretation, well construction planning, reservoir simulation, production optimization, and digital operations. These are tools used daily by engineers and scientists at the world's largest energy companies and run as cloud-native SaaS and as enterprise on-premises solutions.

Job Duties

You lead a small delivery team and own the technical execution of what the team ships. You set direction, develop the engineers on the team, and stay close enough to the code to make good decisions about what the team commits to and how it delivers. This is a hands-on role: you keep writing code.

The role suits an experienced software engineer who is ready to take on the delivery and growth of a team. Candidates new to the team lead role are welcome, especially if you have led a small team informally or owned delivery of technology with a team before.

Strong software engineering fundamentals are the primary requirement. Domain knowledge is valuable but can develop on the job.

Positions are available across a range of teams. Team assignment determines both the product domain and the technologies used.

Teams build software for domains such as:

  • Geoscience - geology, geophysics, or petrophysics
  • Drilling engineering and well planning
  • Reservoir engineering and modeling
  • Production engineering and optimization
  • E&P data management and integration
  • Cloud and platform infrastructure, data services, and developer tooling
  • AI-assisted analytics, search, and generative AI

Technologies used vary by team and include:

  • Languages such as Java, C#, F#, C++, Python, and TypeScript
  • Frameworks, platforms, and runtimes such as .NET, Eclipse RCP/SWT, JUnit, Angular, React, and Node.js
  • Cloud platforms including Azure and AWS
  • Containerization and orchestration tooling such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Helm, and Argo CD/Flux

Relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and MongoDB

What You Will Do

You lead a small delivery team and contribute code alongside them. The work has two dimensions, and you do both every day.

Build and ship software
  • Own features end to end: analyze requirements, design solutions, write the code, test it, and ship it
  • Proactively identify and fix weaknesses in the codebase, test coverage, and development process
  • Investigate and resolve production defects and trace root cause when symptom and source are not in the same place
  • Apply secure coding practices, surface vulnerabilities in code reviews, and fix security issues as they arise
  • Evaluate and integrate open-source tools and libraries where they improve the systems
  • Stay close enough to the code to make sound technical decisions about what the team commits to and how it delivers
Lead the delivery team
  • Own technical execution and delivery for a small team of engineers building production software
  • Translate product requirements into concrete delivery plans with realistic schedules and clear task ownership
  • Run design and code reviews and hold the team to consistent technical standards
  • Set technical direction for your team's area: technology choices, design approach, and how the team works
  • Surface blockers, risks, and schedule changes early, and keep engineering leadership current on team status
  • Work directly with Product Management and engineering managers on planning, scoping, and priority trade-offs
  • Develop the engineers on the team through code reviews, pairing, direct feedback on growth areas, and the standard you set in your own work

This is a management-track role. People management responsibilities are limited at this level, but the role is expected to grow into formal people management over time.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 5-10 years of software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in at least one of: Java, C#/F# (.NET), C++, Python, or TypeScript (React, Angular, or Node.js)
  • Experience owning the full development cycle: requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and delivery
  • Experience debugging production software and tracing root causes that span multiple components or layers
  • Experience coordinating the technical work of a delivery team or owning delivery of technology with a team, even informally
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs to teammates and stakeholders
  • Ability to lead delivery across a distributed, cross-timezone team
Preferred
  • Experience with cloud-native development, full-stack or web application development, or data platform technologies
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure automation
  • Background in enterprise software, SaaS platforms, or technically demanding application domains (scientific computing, real-time systems, large-scale data)
  • Background in iterative delivery environments where you worked directly with Product Management to plan and scope work
  • Exposure to integrating machine learning, generative AI, or LLM-based components into application features
  • Experience growing less experienced engineers through technical mentorship
  • Formal or informal people leadership experience

Energy industry experience is not required but is a strong plus. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if your experience does not match every item in the preferred list.

How You Work

The team lead who succeeds in this role is organized, direct, and technically credible. You earn trust through the quality of your technical judgment and the way you treat the people on your team, not through hierarchy. You communicate clearly upward and laterally, surface problems early, and create the conditions for your team to do good work. You stay close to the code and use that connection to make better decisions about what the team commits to and how it delivers. You take an active interest in the growth of the engineers around you because you understand that the team's capability is the long-term outcome you own.

Why Landmark

We build small, high-ownership teams and invest in the quality of every person on them. You will work in a business where software is the product, the work you do matters, and the standards are high. As a team lead, you stay close to the code, own delivery for a real team, and help the engineers on it grow into stronger contributors.

Landmark offers competitive compensation including bonus and long-term incentive programs.
