Job description

Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute is currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Custodian / Janitor. The ideal candidate for this position is detail-oriented, flexible and willing to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as the need arises. The Janitor will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and public areas. This is fantastic opportunity to earn competitive pay and full-time benefits. 

Performs general clean-up of all areas of the building as directed - sweeping, mopping floors, vacuuming and dusting.  Completes non-routine cleaning according to specified job orders.  Remove garbage and recycling daily and prepare bins for weekly pick-up.  Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests. 


Requires a high school diploma and 1 year previous janitorial experience or 5 years of janitorial experience in lieu of a high school diploma; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.   Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing and working alone for long periods of time.  Ability to work well under minimal supervision; Capacity to take direction; Strong attention to detail.

Successful completion of a post offer pre-employment physical examination may be required, along with respirator eligibility.

Vaccinations/immunizations may be required as a condition of employment.

A valid REAL ID driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance are required.  

Hours are from 10:00am to 6:30pm Monday - Friday.

Position is located at the south campus of LBRI on Kirtland Air Force Base.


Work is performed in a variety of settings including office and laboratory environments, as well as in outdoor areas.  Will frequently stand, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, climb, sweep, reach/work overhead, frequently lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds, perform repetitive motions and perform desk-based computer tasks.  May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.
