Job description

VCA is looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst who can turn complex operational and clinical data into clearer decisions across our network of veterinary hospitals. This person will build and maintain PowerBI/Power Apps reporting, work confidently with SQL and data models, investigate the reasons behind performance trends, and partner with Business Operations and hospital leaders to improve scheduling, capacity, workflow, productivity and financial performance. We are looking for someone who is technically strong, naturally curious and able to translate analysis into practical action for non-technical leaders.

The Business Intelligence Analyst will play a key role in transforming raw operational and clinical data into clear, actionable insights that drive efficiency, growth, and improved patient (pet) care across our hospital network. This role will own the design, build, and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reporting tools that give hospital leaders and executives real-time visibility into key performance indicators such as pet visit volume, appointment scheduling efficiency, staff productivity, revenue per visit, and workflow bottlenecks. The ideal candidate is equal parts analytical problem-solver and storyteller - someone who can dig into messy data, find the "why," and communicate it clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

This role requires associates to work a hybrid schedule out of one of the MVH North America Hub Locations - Vancouver, WA | Santa Monica, CA.

Essential Responsibility/Tasks:

  • Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that track hospital and network-wide performance metrics (visit volume, appointment utilization, wait times, staff productivity, revenue, client retention, etc.)
  • Partner with the VP of Business Operations and hospital leadership to identify workflow inefficiencies and recommend data-driven process improvements
  • Analyze trends in pet visit patterns, scheduling, and clinic throughput to identify opportunities to improve capacity utilization and reduce bottlenecks
  • Develop and maintain data models, ETL processes, and data pipelines connecting practice management systems to Power BI and other reporting tools
  • Establish and monitor KPIs across operations, clinical workflow, staffing, and financial performance
  • Conduct ad hoc and deep-dive analyses to answer strategic business questions from leadership
  • Translate complex data findings into clear narratives and recommendations for non-technical audiences, including executive presentations
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and governance across reporting tools and data sources in partnership with MVH
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, HR, and Clinical teams to align on reporting needs and definitions
  • Identify opportunities to automate recurring reports and streamline manual data processes
  • Support annual/quarterly business reviews with hospital-level and network-level performance insights

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2-5 years of experience in a business intelligence, data analyst, or operations analyst role
  • Strong hands-on proficiency with Power BI (DAX, Power Query, data modeling, dashboard design)
  • Solid SQL skills for querying and manipulating relational databases
  • Experience working with large, multi-location operational datasets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present data insights to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, growing organization

*All degrees will be deemed "or equivalent combination of education and experience" unless absolutely required to do the job (i.e., DVM degree for Veterinarian, Law degree for Attorney, etc.).

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in veterinary, healthcare, dental, or multi-site medical services industries
  • Experience with Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables) and other BI tools (Tableau, Looker)
  • Exposure to Python or R for data analysis/automation
  • Experience with workflow/process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) a plus
  • Experience working within a multi-site or franchise/rollup corporate structure
