Position Summary
The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer on Stanley Martin Homes' Enterprise Data & Analytics Platform (EDAP) team plays a critical role in driving data-informed decision-making across the organization.
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Business Intelligence Developer to join our growing Data & Analytics practice. In this role, you will help develop and maintain BI dashboards, data models, and semantic layer components that empower business units across the organization to make confident, data-driven decisions.
You will collaborate closely with senior BI developers, data engineers, and cross-functional analysts to translate business requirements into accurate, reliable, and intuitive reporting solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career data professional to build a strong foundation in enterprise BI development while contributing to meaningful outcomes across Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and beyond.

Responsibilities and Duties
Report Development
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of BI dashboards and reports using enterprise BI tools (Power BI and/or Looker).
  • Curate data experiences that are intuitive, interactive, and aligned with business decisions.
  • Prepare summaries and presentations for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Participate in user-acceptance testing (UAT) for new reports, datasets, and metric definitions.
  • Enable self-service analytics while maintaining governance and metric integrity.
  • Governance & Collaboration
  • Partner with stakeholders across business units to understand reporting needs and translate them into data solutions.
  • Follow established governance, naming conventions, and documentation standards.
  • Standardize KPIs and ensure consistent metric definitions across tools and teams.
  • Simplify complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Help ensure data quality by performing validation checks and working with analysts to resolve issues.

Data Modeling & SQL Development
  • Optimize data models and queries to improve report performance and refresh reliability.
  • Identify friction in reporting workflows and propose scalable automation solutions.
  • Develop and troubleshoot SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support reporting and analytics needs.
  • Optimize data structures for reporting performance and scalability.
  • Support the creation of semantic models, dataset definitions, and standardized metrics under the direction of senior developers.
  • AI-Enhanced Analytics & Innovation
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate segmentation analysis, insight generation, and reporting workflows.
  • Explore predictive scoring, customer clustering, and behavioral modeling opportunities.
  • Assist in evaluating emerging AI capabilities for marketing optimization.
  • Support conversational BI and AI-assisted reporting experiments.
  • Stay informed about emerging BI and AI tools and participate in continuous learning.

Core Technical Environment
  • Database: Snowflake, SQL (advanced querying, aggregations, window functions)
  • BI Tools: Power BI, Looker, Omni
  • Cloud Platform: Azure-based data ecosystem
  • Workflow Tools: Git, Agile/Jira
  • Scripting: Basic Python (automation or exploratory analysis)

Position Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2+ years of experience in BI development or business analytics (internships and coursework welcome).
  • Strong SQL skills and a solid understanding of relational databases, including aggregations and window functions.
  • Basic experience with one or more BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with data visualization best practices and dashboard design concepts.
  • Ability to translate analytical findings into business recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort presenting to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid environment (3 days per week onsite).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with dimensional modeling fundamentals and data warehousing concepts.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled analytics, predictive modeling, or customer scoring.
  • Experience working with Git, Jira/Trello, or similar version control and project management tools.
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Python/R) for automation or data prep.
  • Industry background in residential real estate, construction, consumer behavior, or digital marketing.
