Description
Martin Marietta is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer to join the Enterprise Excellence team and to provide world-class operations support. This position will closely collaborate with operations and other operations services teams to assist in the safe and efficient execution of open-pit quarry as well as sand and gravel operations. This individual will also support continuous improvement of the business processes and operational excellence across the enterprise.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform and/or support mine planning for open pit and sand and gravel operations
  • Lead continuous improvement in mine planning through the development and maintenance of standards and best practices
  • Working with operations management and other operation services groups to develop short, mid-range, and life-of-mine plans for operations quarries, pits, and mines
  • Analyzing geological data and recommend optimal extraction sequences and equipment utilization
  • Conducting feasibility studies and economic evaluations to assess the viability of new mining projects
  • Monitoring and tracking mining progress, identifying and addressing deviations and recommending reconciliation plans
  • Collaborating with operations and operations support teams on the execution of mine plans
  • Providing creative solutions for mine planning and site development, as well as cost-effective options for operations management

Requirements:
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in mining, geological, or civil engineering
  • Have 2+ years of experience in mine planning, preferably for aggregate or industrial mineral mining operations
  • Have experience in developing mine plans for surface and underground operations
  • Have experience with exploration drilling and geologic interpretation
  • Possess or can obtain a professional engineering (PE) or geology (PG) license

Qualifications/Skills:
  • Strong commitment to leadership in the Company's world-class safety culture
  • Experience in mine planning utilizing Carlson, GEOVIA, and/or MAPTEK Mining software programs; experience with Carlson preferred
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS applications, and Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Knowledge and experience with Stonemont, Plant Flow, and/or Aggflow software a plus
  • Experience operating UAVs/drones for mine sites, including conducting site surveys and measuring stockpiles. FAA Part 107 certification and experience with Propeller area
  • Superb time management and judgment skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills; self-motivated with the ability to work productively in both individual and group settings
  • Through strategic thinking, manage and create easy-to-follow plans to guide site planning and development
  • Project management and practical application experience; experience in capital project support and/or management
  • Out-of-town travel required
