Job description

Aerospace Pyrotechnic Systems Engineer — Metro Detroit, MI

Compensation: $120,000–$150,000 base + annual bonus + signing bonus
Perks: Relocation assistance | Onsite role

Step into a day where your designs ignite flight-critical systems. At a privately held, long-established propulsion manufacturer, you will be the technical owner of pyrotechnic and energetic components—initiators, igniters, gas generators—shaping them from first concept through qualification.

A day in the role
  • Kick off with requirements: translate performance needs into clear, testable specifications and verification plans.
  • Move into design: engineer components and propellants, run analyses, and collaborate with manufacturing to ensure producibility.
  • Head to the lab: plan and conduct development and qualification tests; reduce data and interpret results to guide design decisions.
  • Close the loop: prepare test plans, technical reports, and documentation suites for internal and customer review.
  • Ensure compliance: interpret applicable government regulations, standards, and safety procedures for energetic devices.
What you bring
  • 10+ years leading development and qualification of energetic components.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering; Project Management also considered.
  • Working knowledge of requirements verification and validation (V&V).
  • Familiarity with ammunition and explosive certification processes.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Clear, concise technical writing and presentation abilities.
Why this team

Join a stable, privately owned company with a culture of long engineering tenures—far from defense-prime layoff cycles. You’ll own energetic-device development end to end, from design through qualification, with competitive pay, a signing bonus, and paid relocation.

Tools, tech, and domain
  • Domain focus: energetic, Explosives, Ordnance, Propellant, Pyrotechnics, Warhead
  • Machines & technologies: aerospace
