Larson Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead front end engineering and detailed design of projects throughout various processing facilities, including pulp & paper, chemical processing, and power production. The ideal candidate will have recent experience in engineering consulting, design engineering, and project lead & supervision relating to a process-mechanical projects. The candidate will have experience supervising, directing, and mentoring design engineers as well as lead design projects from initial concept through all stages of the project to construction assistance.

Description

This position is for engineering leaders who can work independently and with a team to coordinate with clients in executing design projects and utilize technical resources from Larson Engineering's Atlanta area office as needed to fulfill the project's design needs.

This position will work directly with multiple disciplines to develop all aspects of various projects from initial concept through design and construction. The position will require direct contact with clients, vendors, and contractors to coordinate and meet the necessary project goals. The ideal candidate will be an independent leader in the company and have a growth-orientated personality with a willingness to address all aspects of industrial projects. As an engineering consultant, you will need to offer a broad knowledge of the latest equipment and technology used in the many industries with the ability to develop complete solutions for clients.

Specific Responsibilities include

  • Leading, performing, and overseeing specific project tasks related to mechanical and process design.
  • Supervise & Mentor Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
  • Performing process & piping calculations, flow balances, pipe & pump sizing, pressure drop calculations, stress analysis, etc.
  • Participate in recruiting, retaining, and developing other team members.
  • Development of flow diagrams and Process & Instrument Diagrams.
  • Project Capital Cost Estimating and Project Schedule development for front end engineering and detailed design projects.
  • Creation of equipment, project, and material specifications.
  • Performing field verifications of new designs and existing environments.
  • Collecting existing information and interpreting data.
  • Creation of reports, project summaries and recommendations.
  • Provide technical reviews of design work within your department.
  • Facilitate implementation and usage of design standards, improving them where possible.
  • Participate in business development efforts to bring on and retain clients, in our current industries and potential new industries with growth orientated approach.
  • Developing projects from initial design concepts through construction.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines to generate project goals for the client.
  • Providing onsite construction assistance.
  • Ability to Travel as needed, typically less than 20%.
  • Experience in AutoCAD design and 3-D modeling is necessary for directing others.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Paper Science Engineering
  • Minimum 15 years' experience leading design teams for heavy industrial piping projects
  • Professional Engineering License is required
  • High Proficiency in Process/Mechanical Engineering & design for construction, with experience leading and coordinating multi-discipline design teams.
  • Experience performing business development and generating new business opportunities while sustaining good working relationship with clients.
  • Project Management Experience with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communications skills
