Location: Mogadishu, Somalia

Clearance Level: Department of State (DOS) - Secret

Primary Function: You would be responsible for overseeing protection teams for the client in a high-threat location, ensuring teams are communicating effectively, sharing time-sensitive information, and operating smoothly. Additionally, you would communicate with and maintain professional relations with client personnel. This position supports Department of State Worldwide Protective Services III (WPS III) Task Orders (TO) in austere environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate contractor-provided protective operations.
  • Assist the DS/RSO Watch Officer in the RSO Tactical Operations Center (TOC).
  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of all protective operations, to include the following:
    • Manage the daily operations of the protection cell within the RSO TOC.
    • Evaluate threatening situations and appropriately call for deployment of additional resources (e.g., Emergency Response Team, Quick Reaction Force, etc.).
    • Operate communications equipment and monitor and relay radio traffic, effectively controlling the various protection nets.
    • Communicate with entities outside the protection cell using a variety of voice- and text-based communications technologies (e.g., local cell phone, regional and global satellite phone, tactical military radio, UHF/VHF radio).
    • Prepare daily and weekly reports as requested by the supervisory chain of command.
    • Maintain a watch record.
    • Ensure that PSDs submit required mission paperwork prior to the start of a mission.
    • Monitor PSDs.
    • Assist with mission planning for PSDs.
    • Maintain a database of all protective missions.
    • Brief senior U.S. Embassy personnel during emergency situations.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess either:
    • A minimum of three (3) years' experience providing protective services on WPS III and/or any of its predecessor contracts.
    • (Or) A minimum of two (2) years' experience providing protective security services on WPS III and/or any of its predecessor contracts with a minimum of six (6) months of that experience being in the TO area of operations.
  • Must possess a minimum of seven (7) years' experience in protective security assignments. This experience may be gained in the employ of any national, state, provincial, local, or commercial entities providing armed protective services. A minimum of two (2) years of this experience must have been in a protective security supervisory or in-charge capacity.
  • Must attend and successfully complete a supervisory course meeting the requirements established in WPS III IDIQ.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Passport with no less than 6 months remaining before expiration.
  • Shall be proficient in the ability to speak, write, and communicate in English.
  • Applicants must pass the pre-employment Physical Readiness Test (PRT) in order to advance in the application process for the position.

Training (Paid Training):

  • Attend and successfully complete the DOS Protective Security Specialist Basic and Quick Reaction Force training course. If already completed and/or served on a DOS TO within the last 3 years, must pass a weapon and PRT requalification course on TO.
  • Qualify with the Glock-19, M4 or MK18 (as specified by the designated TO), M240, and M249.
  • Complete the WPS III PRT.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:

  • Must be approved for a Department of State Medical Clearance.
  • Must be able to walk, squat, crawl, run, quickly enter/exit vehicles, maneuver around obstacles, carry heavy equipment and personnel, and operate mission-essential issued equipment requiring dexterity.
  • Must be able to operate and/or travel in vehicles on improved and unimproved roadways, as well as off-road.
  • Must be physically able to carry and operate firearms.
  • Must maintain physical fitness readiness that includes, but is not limited to: medium and/or long-distance running, bench presses, agility runs, push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods with minimal breaks.
  • Must possess no medical or physical impediments to traveling overseas to and within countries considered dangerous or unhealthy. Must be able to travel long distances in airplanes, helicopters, and road vehicles.
