Logistics Tracking information

What is logistics tracking?

Logistics tracking is the process of monitoring and managing the movement of goods, shipments, or inventory throughout the supply chain. It involves using technology such as GPS, barcodes, and RFID to keep real-time tabs on products as they move from suppliers to warehouses, and ultimately to customers. This helps companies improve efficiency, reduce losses, and provide accurate delivery information to clients. Effective logistics tracking ensures better coordination, transparency, and customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a logistics tracking specialist?

To thrive as a Logistics Tracking Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in supply chain management or logistics, often supported by relevant certifications. Familiarity with logistics management software, tracking systems like RFID or GPS, and ERP platforms is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication, and multitasking skills help professionals excel in coordinating shipments and resolving issues. These capabilities ensure efficient operations, timely deliveries, and customer satisfaction in a fast-paced logistics environment.

What are some typical challenges faced in a logistics tracking role, and how are they managed?

In a Logistics Tracking position, professionals often encounter challenges such as delayed shipments, lost inventory, or discrepancies between physical and digital records. Effective communication with carriers, use of advanced tracking software, and proactive problem-solving are key to managing these issues. Team members regularly collaborate with warehouse staff, transportation partners, and customer service representatives to ensure accurate and timely delivery updates. Staying organized and adaptable helps logistics trackers quickly resolve disruptions and maintain smooth supply chain operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Run day-to-day operational command of time-sensitive isotope shipments, including dispatch, routing, carrier coordination, and real-time transit monitoring.

  • Monitor transit status proactively to identify and mitigate risks, re-routing shipments before delays occur.

  • Coordinate with healthcare couriers, airport/ground operations, and internal teams to ensure smooth transportation workflows and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Job description

Program Manager, Radiopharmaceutical & Life Sciences LogisticsAbout Ascent

Ascent Global Logistics, headquartered in Belleville, Michigan, is a leading global provider of expedited, time-critical logistics solutions and other direct transportation services. The company connects customers to its extensive carrier network, internal ground fleet and airline via its proprietary, digital PEAK freight marketplace, which provides robust carrier capacity and transparent pricing, backed by 24/7/365 logistics experts. Ascent’s offerings include air charter and ground expedited solutions as well as truckload, less-than-truckload, global forwarding, brokerage, and managed transportation services. The experienced Ascent team solves customers’ most challenging logistics needs by providing industry-leading service and top-tier satisfaction.

Our Guiding Principles

At the core of Ascent's culture is a strong commitment to excellence, driven by the passion and dedication of every team member. We're equally dedicated to going above and beyond for our customers, ensuring this commitment extends beyond our team and brings exceptional value to those we serve. We aim for perfect execution in everything we do and 'play hard' by creating an environment where tasks are performed with a can-do attitude from start to finish. We 'play smart' by delivering on our commitments in an honest, fair and ethical manner. We treat every person with whom we interface with the utmost dignity and respect. We understand that our teammates are our most valuable assets, so we 'play together' by making every effort to provide a professional and enjoyable experience, enabling careers to flourish and personal growth to be achieved.

What You’ll Do

Ascent Global Logistics is seeking a highly organized Program Manager with deep operational command to run our specialized, time-critical logistics programs for radiopharmaceutical manufacturers, nuclear medicine pharmacies, and healthcare networks. Because radioactive medical isotopes have short half-lives and decay rapidly, this role demands absolute operational precision and a zero-fail mindset. You will own execution within our control tower driving milestone tracking, carrier and network coordination, and disruption response to ensure life-saving diagnostics and theranostic treatments reach patients safely and on time. This is fundamentally an operations command role: the discipline is running a tight, fast-reacting control tower, not managing a client relationship from the outside. This is a senior, high-visibility role built around Ascent's dedicated 4PL control tower model for life sciences accounts, with direct exposure to senior operations leadership and the chance to shape how this segment scales operationally.

  • Control Tower Execution: Run day-to-day operational command of time-sensitive isotope shipments end-to-end dispatch, routing, carrier coordination, and real-time transit monitoring with zero tolerance for missed windows.
  • Proactive Disruption Management: Continuously monitor flight and ground transit status to identify risk early and re-route before a delay threatens a dose; this is anticipatory operations, not reactive firefighting.
  • Cross-Functional Network Coordination: Direct specialty healthcare couriers, airport/ground operations, and internal technology teams to build and enforce frictionless, repeatable transportation workflows.
  • Regulatory & Safety Alignment: Work with Quality Assurance and safety officers to ensure strict operational adherence to transport requirements for hazardous, radioactive, and temperature-sensitive biological materials.
  • High-Urgency Escalation Ownership: Lead root-cause investigations and drive corrective action plans (CAPA) when disruptions occur, rapidly deploying alternative routing and standing up contingency plans under pressure.
  • Operational Program Build: Help shape and scale the control tower's operating model and playbooks as this segment expands this is a build-and-own role, not a maintain role.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or equivalent practical industry experience.
  • 7+ years in time-critical logistics operations, control tower management, program management, or specialized transportation operations.
  • Solid understanding of healthcare supply chains, cold-chain logistics, or high-care transport operations.
  • Direct experience with radiopharmaceuticals or nuclear medicine is a major plus.
  • A track record of running intense, time-critical operations where delays directly affect patient health outcomes — comfortable making fast, high-consequence routing decisions under pressure.
  • Able to work fluently across transportation tracking systems and translate operational metrics into performance reporting and process improvements.
Ascent’s Competitive Benefits
  • 401(k) and employer matching
  • Life Insurance
  • Health
  • Dental
  • Vision Insurance
  • Short- & Long-Term Disability
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Employee Wellness Program
  • Paid Holidays
  • Employee Recognition Programs
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Overtime, Differential & Bonus Pay

Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000
