Job Description

The Logistics Manager is responsible for ensuring that finished product is safely and efficiently taken from production, processed through distribution, loaded on trailers per developed routings, and safely delivered on time without damage to the customer. In addition, the Logistics Manager will oversee material management from receiving to distribution, and inventory management. The manager will drive improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and team by utilizing continuous improvement tools and identifying and implementing best practices from across the organization. This position will work closely with customers, sales, and operations to optimize the efficiency of the delivery network while managing costs while improving value service.  The manager will lead the development and implementation of evolutionary logistics concepts as well as support daily customer requirements and solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and manage activities of the Materials, Distribution and Logistics department / teams.
  • Ensure that the correct products are safely delivered on time and complete, while meeting or exceeding efficiency goals and KPIs.
  • Assign responsibility to supervisors and leads as needed to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Independently develop strategies to improve logistical efficiencies, and work with Logistics and Operations to ensure successful deployment of those strategies.
  • Champion customer solutions related to logistics and quickly communicate issues and opportunities to improve customer relationships.
  • Lead communication between operations, customers, and sales regarding logistics performance and solutions.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects with internal and external partners to improve all aspects of material flow and logistics.
  • Ensure all staff are meeting compliance and process training requirements, including DOT, safety training, etc.
  • Review analysis of activities, costs, operations and forecast to determine the department's progress toward stated goals and objectives.
  • Review warehouse layouts and delivery schedules as appropriate. 
  • Identify and justify the need for capital projects, negotiate leased vehicle rates and freight tariffs and prepare zero-based operating budget annually.
  • Lead the processes necessary to ensure the appropriate level and mix of inventory is stocked at each applicable location to ensure high service levels with minimum inventories and a positive cash flow each month.
  • Ensure finished goods inventories are active and of high utility.  Coordinate with sales and marketing to reduce/eliminate slow moving materials.  Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure obsolete inventory is recycled as quickly as possible.
  • Assist in the planning and achievement of various material efficiency programs, including the use of alternate material and material usage.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Transportation, Logistics, Distribution, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
  • MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive logistics experience.
  • Experience with distribution management.
  • Experience with carrier management, contractual/pricing negotiations, domestic and international transportation laws and compliance, and fleet management.
  • Career experience in transportation, logistics, distribution, materials management, regulatory compliance, cross-functional teams, project management and change management.
  • Experience in all facets of fleet safety and compliance inclusive of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state regulations.
  • Comprehensive background and experience to optimize and integrate all elements of materials, planning, logistics, and distribution.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite inclusive of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access as well as optimization software tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, from associate level to corporate executives.
  • Proven track record of successful implementation, continuous improvement, and leadership.
  • Strategic thinking that looks for new opportunities, methods, and approaches.
  • Organized, self-motivated and results driven.

Additional Information

The pay range for this full-time position is $125,000-$130,000 per year + 10% STIP + medical, dental, and vision benefits starting day 1 + 401k and PTO. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
