Job description

Are you safe and skilled driver, passionate about helping others while staying physically active? Are you looking for the opportunity to grow professionally as a driver within of a fun team making a difference in the community? 

Our Logistics Associates are responsible for receiving and delivering items throughout the Community Action House organization. Each day, you’ll assist in coordinating, receiving, delivering and moving large items (such as furniture) for the Resale Store and food donations (sometimes with pallet jacks) for the Food Club and Community Kitchen. Every day will be different, but generally your day will start in the warehouse of our Food Club, moving inventory on and off trucks. The rest of your day will be out in the community, driving to homes and picking up donations to then deliver those donations to our Resale Stores. You will also assist in light maintenance of facilities, and setup/teardown for events. We are invested in professional development, and this hire might have the opportunity to grow as a professional driver within our organization.

We are looking for a team player who is a go-getter with positive attitude. Someone compassionate and guest centered, and able to navigate hard conversations in the rare instance when we need to decline a donation. Our Logistics team members deliver a positive experience to our donors, guests and staff while ensuring that in-kind donations are distributed to all areas of the organization.

Responsibilities & Essential Duties
  • Pickup and Delivery: Pick up and deliver items from donor homes and businesses, suppliers, and retail partners, ensuring timely deliveries and pickups. This includes moving large and heavy items by hand, in and out of delivery vehicles, residential homes, and commercial spaces using proper lifting techniques and equipment (dollies, hand trucks, ramps, etc.).
  • Food Handling: Ensure food is properly handled in a food safe manner (training for this role includes ServSafe or other food handling certification).
  • Loading and Unloading: Assist with the loading and unloading of stock, sometimes using equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, or pallet jacks. Ensure all items are properly secured within the vehicle to prevent damage.
  • Customer Interaction: This role builds and maintains relationships with donors, volunteers and guests throughout workday interactions ensuring a positive experience.
  • Safe Operation & Compliance: Safely operate Community Action House vehicles (van or box truck) in various traffic and weather conditions, adhering to all local traffic laws, company policies, and Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of donations, mileage, fuel usage, and hours of service. Use a mobile application for routing and pickup/delivery tracking.
  • Vehicle Maintenance & Inspection: Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the Logistics Manager promptly. Maintain cleanliness of vehicles exterior and interior.
  • Facilities Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections to identify and address maintenance needs. Complete minor repairs and maintenance including but not limited to: repairing wall damage, painting, floor maintenance. Perform regular maintenance of the grounds, including but not limited to: lawn maintenance, snow removal and salting, trash removal.
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to general warehouse and retail inventory duties such as sorting goods, organizing inventory, or staging products for sale.
Education & Experience
  • 1+ years of relevant experience required 
  • No supervisory experience required
  • High School Diploma required; or equivalent education or experience
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing
  • Valid chauffeur’s license (or ability to obtain)
  • ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Basic conversational Spanish proficiency desired
