Job Description

PURPOSE

Responsible for the organization, scheduling of manpower and directing logistics on a day-to-day work plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the daily scheduling of logistics personnel to ensure proper manning in order to ship and receive products at the facility in a productive and cost-efficient manner
  • Directs the day-to-day activities of the logistics department which include shipping, receiving, housekeeping, maintenance and inventory control
  • Shipping and receiving errors and the progressive disciplinary process in the area of counseling, oral and written warnings resulting from these errors.
  • Responsible for overseeing maintenance of warehouse and warehouse equipment, providing both preventive maintenance programs and all necessary repairs.
  • Responsible for overseeing carrier activity on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ensures that warehouse personnel have safe, efficient equipment in order to perform the distribution functions.
  • Responsible for warehouse safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for employees and with the regulations of OSHA. Local and state regulations.
  • Administers cost control over all functions.
  • Responsible for layout of warehouse for storing and staging customer returns, inventory control, special handling of product, scheduling of transfer materials.
  • Responsible for monthly and yearly budgets.
  • Interviews and hires personnel for department.
  • Assures employee/employer relationships are maintained.
  • Analyze employee skills in cross training programs and arrange training as required.
  • Recommend pay increases or promotions based on employees work performance and progress in gaining job knowledge.
  • Conducts performance appraisals.
  • Counsels' employees as needed in regards to work performance, attendance, safety or other issues.
  • Conducts employee meetings to keep employees informed on goals, company policies/rules and safety.
  • Attends other meetings as required.
  • Responsible for adhering to and executing the applicable Environmental Health & Safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for all employees according to Amcor, local, state, and federal requirement-regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have good speaking abilities
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English
  • Must be proficient in Excel and Word programs

EDUCATION

College degree or 3 to 5 years of experience in a related field, desirably in a distribution and transportation environment.

EXPERIENCE

Strong leadership, communication and motivational skills.

Knowledge of D.O.T. rules and regulations, city rules and regulations pertaining to truck traffic

SAFETY

Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Amcor's guidelines. Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards and maintains a clean work environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is continuously exposed to temperature variances; extreme heat during the Spring and Summer and cold temperatures during the Winter. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment.
