General Manager

The General Manager is a dual authority role responsible for overseeing a pricing team as well as managing the financial and strategic aspects of freight and logistics pricing. This role is responsible for analyzing market data, carrier costs, and customer needs which in turn requires strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills. The understanding of port drayage operations and logistics is essential.

Critical Job Functions

  • Strategic Pricing Leadership: Develop and implement high-level pricing strategies to maximize revenue and profitability across all transportation modes.
  • Bid & Proposal Management: Manage the end-to-end proposal lifecycle, including responding to complex RFPs/RFQs and gathering feedback on market rates.
  • Market Analysis & Benchmarking: Conduct regular research into competitor pricing, industry trends, and global freight market fluctuations to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Customer & Carrier Negotiation: Lead negotiations with carriers and customers to secure "Best in Class" rates.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales, finance, IT and operations teams to align pricing models with service capabilities and corporate financial goals.
  • Financial Performance Monitoring: Analyze achieved costs vs. profitability and adjust standard pricing matrices or custom client models as needed.

Essential Skills, Characteristics & Experience

  • Analytical Acumen: Advanced proficiency in data interpretation, financial modeling, and using statistical tools to drive actionable insights.
  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and advanced data tools such as Excel and Tableau.
