Position Purpose:

Help ensure the success of events, facility rentals, workshops, meetings, and classes offered at the

Garden by providing set up and support services to departments and guests.


Position Description:

Job Type: Seasonal

Schedule: AM or PM - Must work weekends

Pay: $18.00/hr


Essential Duties:

  • Ensure that each event space is clean prior to, during, and after each event. This includes floors, counter/table tops, fixtures, restrooms, and the removal of debris, recyclables, and trash
  • Set up and break down tables, chairs, event equipment, and structures in a timely and orderly manner as directed by weekly event schedule, carefully handling equipment and adhering to safety standards and practices
  • Set up and break down audio/visual equipment for events, programs and facility rentals; handle minor troubleshooting with equipment hardware
  • Assist Beverage Department staff with bar set ups and breakdowns prior to, during, and at conclusion of events. This would include any assistance needed throughout the event regarding trash, recycling, or assistance with ice and supplies
  • Assist the Exhibits Department with the installation, maintenance, and de-installation of temporary art exhibitions and seasonal displays
  • Assist staff and guest deliveries of additional equipment and/or supplies to designated areas.
  • Operate motorized cart to move all necessary furniture, equipment, supplies, and structures in a safe manner
  • Provide exemplary customer service to Garden staff, volunteers, clients, guests and vendors
  • Ensure that the needs of staff, volunteers, clients, guests and vendors are met throughout the duration of those events
  • Keep venue staging areas organized and clean, with only required equipment and furniture staged. Maintain accessibility and uphold fire code
  • Perform basic grounds-keeping tasks, when necessary, to maintain venues at presentation quality; detect, report, and/or fix any damages or irregularities in the Garden, with a particular responsibility for venue spaces
  • Use email communication systems and utilize work request submission system
  • May represent Event Logistics staff at Garden meetings
  • May operate Garden vehicles off-site when required
  • May operate heavy machinery (forklift, etc.) after completing training and certification
  • Lead progress on long-term projects or installations while balancing daily responsibilities as dictated by the setup report

  • Must work during weekends (Friday-Sunday), occasional evenings, and/or holidays
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motorized cart
  • Must be 18 years of age or older in order to transport alcohol as part of job requirements
  • Must have good communication skills and ability to manage time to complete tasks by time

Equipment Used

In addition to typical office equipment, this role requires the use of small hand tools, handheld power

tools, motorized cart, and other items need to set up, tear down, and maintain Garden displays and

events.

Internal Communication

Frequent communication with Garden staff in multiple departments.

External Communication

Occasional communication with visitors, vendors, and partners.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, see, hear, speak, read, and type. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 75 pounds required. Must be able to climb a ladder, be comfortable working with heights, and be physically capable of operating small handtools. This role will require outdoor work in extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
