POSITION OVERVIEW – Logistics Category Specialist V
The Logistics Category Specialist is responsible for procurement, category management, contracting, supplier performance, and logistics strategy in support of the client’s business objectives. The role provides commercial and functional support across logistics-related spend, including freight forwarding, road transportation, heavy haul, customs brokerage, warehousing, materials management, project logistics, and related third-party logistics services.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage logistics categories and suppliers across freight forwarding, road transportation, heavy haul, customs brokerage, warehousing, materials management, and third-party logistics services.
  • Develop annual contracting and category plans aligned with business priorities, project requirements, market conditions, and stakeholder needs.
  • Conduct supply market analysis, logistics market intelligence, benchmarking, cost modeling, and total cost of ownership analysis to support sourcing and commercial decisions.
  • Lead or support end-to-end sourcing events, including bid package preparation, supplier evaluation, negotiation strategy, commercial analysis, contract award recommendations, and implementation planning.
  • Write, review, and manage logistics contracts, work orders, rate schedules, service level agreements, and commercial terms in alignment with company policies and contracting standards.
  • Provide logistics category support to capital projects, business units, and operations teams on freight strategies, project logistics planning, import/export requirements, customs considerations, transportation routes, ports, marine movements, heavy haul, and delivery planning.
  • Coordinate with project procurement managers, EPC contractors, engineering teams, construction teams, cost engineering, project services, and logistics providers to capture logistics risks, assumptions, and mitigation plans.
  • Oversee supplier performance through KPIs, scorecards, governance routines, corrective action plans, rate compliance, invoice and surcharge governance, issue resolution, continuous improvement, and value tracking.
  • Advise stakeholders on procurement, logistics, trade compliance, and supplier governance processes in accordance with company policies, procedures, incoterms requirements .
  • Collaborate with regional and global category managers to implement enterprise sourcing initiatives, leverage preferred suppliers, identify synergies, and support special projects, including sustainability and efficiency programs.
  • Communicate category plans, sourcing progress, supplier performance, savings delivery, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership using procurement systems, data analytics, market indices, and reporting tools.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, business, engineering, commerce, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of procurement, category management, logistics, freight forwarding, project logistics, transportation, or supply chain experience.
  • Experience with freight forwarding, customs brokerage, marine or road transportation, heavy haul, warehousing, third-party logistics, or materials management is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of category management, strategic sourcing, contracting, supplier management, negotiation, and procurement governance.
  • Experience developing total cost of ownership, should-cost analysis, rate benchmarking, market intelligence, and commercial evaluation models.
  • Working knowledge of shipment planning, import/export processes, customs requirements, Incoterms, transportation risk, and supplier performance metrics.
  • Strong commercial, financial, and analytical skills, including ability to evaluate supplier proposals, rate structures, surcharges, cost drivers, and savings opportunities.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, influencing, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative team player with customer focus, business judgment, ownership, and drive for results.
  • Experience with procurement systems, e-procurement tools, SAP, data analytics, or reporting platforms is preferred.
