Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Students will provide computer help desk support to students, faculty, and staff of Fairmont State University. May assist full time Information Systems Technicians as well as end users by providing desktop computing support including software and hardware installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
Specific tasks (assigned by full-time staff), may include:
- Respond to service requests at user site
- Assist with moving computing equipment to/from/within campus locations
- Staff the Call Center
- Assist in the use, repair, and deployment of audio/visual or data projection equipment
- Assist in the set up/production of temporary A/V systems for campus wide events
- Ensure that complex problems are referred to appropriate full-time staff
- Other duties as assigned.
Student will work approximately 15-20 hours per week (usually daytime hours, but may include some evening and weekend hours).
Minimum Qualifications
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Working knowledge of personal computer hardware and software
- Able to understand complex systems operations and follow instructions carefully and completely
- Abe to think logically and to coordinate with others in problem solving
- Able to work independently
- Able to present a service-oriented professional approach in dealing with end-users
- Able to physically lift and move desktop computing or A/V equipment
Preference given to students who have the ability to work more than one semester.
