Lodge Associate information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a lodge associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lodge Associate, you need customer service expertise, basic hospitality knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with reservation systems, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, and housekeeping or maintenance tools is commonly required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and a friendly demeanor help associates create positive guest experiences and resolve issues efficiently. These abilities are crucial for ensuring guest satisfaction, smooth lodge operations, and repeat business in the hospitality industry.

What are some common challenges lodge associates face during peak seasons, and how can they effectively manage them?

Lodge Associates often encounter increased guest volume and heightened expectations during peak seasons, such as holidays and vacation periods. This can lead to longer hours, multitasking between guest services and housekeeping, and managing guest concerns promptly. To effectively manage these challenges, it's important to prioritize tasks, maintain clear communication with team members, and stay organized. Many lodges provide additional training and support during busy times, and associates who demonstrate adaptability and teamwork often find these periods rewarding for personal and professional growth.

What is a lodge associate?

Lodge associates are staff members who work at lodges, resorts, or similar hospitality establishments. Their responsibilities often include assisting guests with check-in and check-out, maintaining common areas, providing information about the property and local attractions, and ensuring guests have a comfortable stay. Lodge associates may also help with housekeeping, reservations, and handling guest requests or issues. The role requires excellent customer service skills, problem-solving abilities, and a friendly, welcoming attitude. Depending on the size and type of lodge, associates may work in various departments or specialize in specific tasks.

Job description

Position Overview:

Grand View Lodge is looking for a calm, professional, and genuinely guest-focused Security Officer to help keep our resort safe around the clock. You'll patrol all resort areas and buildings, serve as the first point of contact in emergencies, maintain seamless communication with every department, and assist guests and associates with care and professionalism especially overnight when fewer team members are on property. This is a role that requires sound judgment, physical stamina, and a genuine desire to serve others, even in challenging situations.

Security Officers are some of the most visible and trusted associates on our team; you'll build relationships across every department and be a steady, reassuring presence for guests and colleagues alike.

About Grand View Lodge & Cote Hospitality

For over 100 years, Cote Hospitality has crafted transformative guest experiences across world-class resorts and camps. At Grand View Lodge, that means exceptional wellness woven into a full resort lifestyle, golf, dining, events, and more, all grounded in our CoteCares culture of belonging, respect, and shared purpose. We're invested in your growth here: this role comes with real opportunity to advance and expand your skills within our Safety & Security department.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular patrols of all resort areas and buildings following established checklists — identifying potential security risks and ensuring every area of the property is safe, secure, and well-monitored.
  • Maintain continuous, clear communication with all resort departments via radio and phone — coordinating responses, sharing critical information, and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Respond promptly to all security and emergency calls with sound judgment and adherence to established protocols.
  • Execute Grand View Lodge's emergency procedures for situations including medical emergencies, fires, natural disasters, and disturbances; ensure appropriate authorities are notified quickly and accurately.
  • Secure all resort buildings and facilities at close, performing locking procedures and verifying the integrity of all areas overnight.
  • De-escalate and professionally resolve situations involving unruly or disruptive guests; maintaining calm, composure, and fairness in every interaction.
  • Contact law enforcement or fire department personnel when necessary, providing clear and concise information to support an efficient response.
  • Complete detailed and accurate incident and accident reports for every relevant situation, documenting all actions taken.
  • Assist Front Desk and other departments with guest needs during overnight shifts; including room deliveries, transportation coordination, and general guest support.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively during high-pressure situations; you stay calm, clear-headed, and solution-focused when it matters most.
  • This is a 24/7 operation; shift availability including overnight, weekends, and holidays is required.

What you bring:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record for a minimum of one year; occasional use of company vehicles is required.
  • A genuine desire to serve guests and associates — even in difficult situations, your instinct is to help.
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking under pressure; you assess situations quickly, make calm decisions, and resolve conflicts with professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills — clear radio communication, accurate report writing, and professional guest interaction are all part of the job.
  • Physical stamina to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, reach, bend, and occasionally lift 50+ lbs.
  • Comfort working in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings and varying weather conditions.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is a strong asset; if not currently certified, willingness to obtain certification is expected.
  • Prior security experience is preferred but not required — we welcome candidates with a strong work ethic, good judgment, and a commitment to learning.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Why join us:

You'll be part of a team that genuinely invests in its people. CoteCares isn't a tagline, it's how we show up for each other every day. You'll have the tools, support, and team culture to do your best work, with real opportunity to grow your career within our Safety & Security department.
