Locum NPs, or locum nurse practitioners, are advanced practice registered nurses who temporarily fill in for other NPs or provide coverage at healthcare facilities experiencing staffing shortages. They may work in hospitals, clinics, or other care settings on a contract or per diem basis. Locum NPs help maintain continuity of care, reduce provider burnout, and ensure patients receive timely healthcare services. This role is ideal for NPs seeking flexibility, diverse experiences, and the opportunity to travel or work in different environments.
