Job description

Job Summary
Develops, coordinates and implements individual treatment exercise plans to promote cardiac pulmonary health and physical fitness. Supervises patients during their exercise sessions by providing motivation, education, and instruction to improve health and fitness. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. The American Society of Exercise Physiologists has defined the profession as "the study; assessment;and improvement of human biomechanical movement.
Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions
Patient Assessment and Care Planning
  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, including medical history, risk stratification, and functional capacity evaluations
  • Interpret clinical data (ECG, stress tests, vitals, and labs) to guide exercise prescription
  • Develop individualized exercise plans based on patient diagnosis, goals, and physician recommendations

Exercise Supervision and Monitoring
  • Supervise cardiac and pulmonary exercise sessions
  • Monitor cardiovascular response during exercise (heart rate, blood pressure, ECG, symptoms)
  • Identify and respond appropriately to abnormal findings or medical emergencies
  • Adjust exercise prescriptions as patients progress

Patient Education
  • Educate patients on heart and pulmonary disease, lifestyle modification, and risk factor reduction
  • Provide guidance on safe physical activity, nutrition basics, weight management, and stress management
  • Promote long-term adherence to exercise and healthy lifestyle behaviors

Clinical Documentation and Compliance
  • Track patient outcomes and progress toward program goals
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and clinical guidelines

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, dieticians, and other healthcare professionals
  • Communicate patient status and progress to the care team
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
  • Required
    • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiologist (or equivalent)
  • Preferred
    • Master's degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology (or equivalent)

Experience:
  • Preferred
    • One (1) or more years of experience in Exercise Physiology

Certification/Licensure:
  • Required
    • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
      • Must obtain within ninety (90) of start date
    • Dysrhythmia class
      • Must obtain within ninety (90) of start date
    • Advance Life Support Certification (ACLS)
      • Must obtain within six (6) months of start date
    • ACSM-EP Certification
      • Must obtain within one (1) year of start date
    • ACSM-CEP Certification
      • must be obtained within two (2) years of start date
