As a Grounds Supervisor, you will lead and support the daily maintenance and beautification of our campus while working alongside a dedicated Facilities team. This is a working supervisor role, ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, leading a team, and contributing to a mission-driven organization.
What You Will Do
  • Perform and supervise full-spectrum grounds and landscaping work including mowing, weeding, pruning, trimming, mulching, fertilizing, and related tasks.
  • Maintain campus appearance through consistent landscaping and grounds upkeep.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions while supporting campus beautification and sustainability efforts.
  • Coordinate and direct the work of grounds team members to ensure consistent standards of quality, safety, and campus appearance.
  • Maintain accountability for assigned tasks and work orders.
  • Support staff training and development.
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations in accordance with Kendal at Lexington policies.
  • Foster a collaborative and respectful team environment.
  • Serve as the primary supervisor responsible for inclement weather response including snow or ice removal, salting, and flood preparation or mitigation.
  • Respond to weather events during normal work hours, adjusted schedules, and after-hours emergencies as coordinated by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Provide support in other Facilities areas including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmithing/security, painting, equipment and generator maintenance, trash removal and recycling, and safety inspections or compliance tasks.
  • Properly document work order receipt and completion.
  • Secure and store equipment when not in use.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete staff evaluations and incident, accident, and service reports.
  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Purchase and deliver supplies, parts, and equipment as requested by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Assist with special projects and campus events.
  • Report unusual or suspicious conditions or behaviors.
  • Follow all safe work procedures including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Protect others by utilizing cones, barricades, reflective vests, caution signs, and detours when appropriate.
  • Be comfortable working with and supporting the senior population and maintain professionalism and respect for confidentiality while working in a senior living environment.
  • Perform other related work as required.
What You Bring
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of grounds maintenance work and related equipment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's Degree in Landscape or Turf Management or a related discipline preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment, power equipment, and hand tools.
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed documentation.

  • Work overtime and be on-call during weekdays and weekends as needed
