Job description

The defense industry is undergoing rapid transformation, with increasing global complexity and evolving security demands redefining what it takes to compete. Organizations are under growing pressure to deliver with both precision and speed while adapting in real time. Success requires more than incremental improvement-it demands the ability to build capability, scale performance, and drive meaningful change across the enterprise.
In response to urgent national priorities-including the acceleration of munitions production in support of the Department of War-Lockheed Martin is building a new kind of internal consulting capability to meet the moment. This team operates at the intersection of strategy and execution, partnering directly with internal production sites and external suppliers to unlock capacity, remove constraints, and rapidly scale output to support mission-critical priorities.

As the internal consulting arm, we partner across the enterprise to solve complex challenges, accelerate performance, and embed sustainable improvements. We are helping to reshape the defense industrial base-bringing structured problem solving, deep operational expertise, and a bias for action to environments where speed, rigor, and execution are paramount.

What You Will Be Doing
Support the diagnosis of operational performance gaps by analyzing end-to-end processes and helping identify bottlenecks, constraints, and sources of variability across production and support functions
Conduct data-driven root cause analyses (e.g., yield loss, downtime, rework, cycle time variation) and help translate findings into actionable improvement opportunities
Assist in optimizing throughput and flow by applying foundational concepts such as capacity analysis, line balancing, and constraint identification
Support cost and productivity improvement initiatives by analyzing labor, waste, and efficiency drivers across manufacturing and support operations
Contribute to the design and implementation of Lean and continuous improvement solutions, including standard work, visual management, and daily management systems
Support production planning and scheduling improvements, including analysis of sequencing logic, WIP levels, and on-time delivery performance
Work closely with frontline teams on the shop floor to understand current processes, test ideas, and support implementation of improvements
Help develop performance management tools, including KPIs, dashboards, and reporting routines to track operational performance
Support digital and systems initiatives, including data collection, MES enhancements, and automation of reporting processes
Help quantify impact of initiatives by tracking improvements in key metrics such as throughput, cycle time, utilization, and cost per unit
Build foundational capabilities in problem-solving and continuous improvement by working closely with operators, supervisors, and project leaders
Schedule for this Position: Non- standard 40 hour work week as assigned by leader with flexibility for additional hours expected based on workload
