Within Rotary & Mission Systems, the Laser & Sensor Systems (L&SS) team develops advanced High Energy Laser (HEL) technologies that support critical missions and next‑generation defense capabilities.

The Work

Lockheed Martin Rotary & Mission Systems is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join the L&SS team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis, testing, and requirements verification of High Energy Laser systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop and validate software solutions that support advanced laser and sensor technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing and developing embedded software solutions for High Energy Laser systems
  • Performing software analysis, testing, and verification activities
  • Supporting requirements development and validation
  • Collaborating with systems, hardware, and test engineering teams
  • Contributing to software lifecycle processes and engineering best practices
  • Assisting with integration and troubleshooting of hardware and software components

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Computer Engineering or a related discipline, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Master's degree
  • Demonstrated experience writing C/C++ code
  • Embedded real‑time software development
  • Experience with operation and use of standard lab equipment for testing, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, and U.S. citizenship required

  • Agile Development (Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Release Train Engineer experience)
  • Debugging hardware, familiar with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and Wireshark or equivalent
  • Board bring‑up activities working closely with electrical engineers
  • Troubleshooting small and large scale systems across software, firmware, and hardware
  • Experience with communication protocols: SPI, I2C, RS‑422, RS‑485, CANbus, TCP/UDP
  • Fluent working with cross‑functional/multi‑disciplinary teams
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines
  • Software firmware interface development across various chip suppliers
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills
  • Experience integrating software in an embedded hardware environment
Eligibility
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret‑level government security clearance
  • Onsite presence required in Bothell, WA
  • Access to facilities requiring special access authorization
Location & Work Arrangement
  • Onsite in Bothell, WA for the majority of the schedule
  • Part‑time remote telework as negotiated with the manager
  • Work schedule may be 4x10‑hour days with 3 days off a week
Compensation & Benefits
  • Annual base salary range: $93,200 – $164,450 (varies by state and location)
