Ability Beyond Bethel, CT
Part-Time 4-10 Hours per Week
Looking for a rewarding second job that combines your passion for sports, coaching, and making a difference? Ability Beyond is seeking an enthusiastic Special Olympics Local Coordinator to lead and grow our Special Olympics program. This role is ideal for teachers, coaches, athletic directors, recreation professionals, or community leaders looking to inspire athletes, build connections, and create inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities.
What You'll Do
Lead Athlete & Team Success
  • Coordinate practices, training sessions, and competitions
  • Support athlete participation in local, regional, and state events
  • Recruit and support athletes, coaches, volunteers, and Unified Partners
  • Ensure a positive, safe, and engaging experience for all participants
Manage Program Operations
  • Serve as the main liaison with Special Olympics Connecticut
  • Oversee registrations, medical forms, and competition paperwork
  • Coordinate schedules, transportation, equipment, and event logistics
  • Maintain accurate records and program compliance
Build Community Connections
  • Partner with families, schools, volunteers, and community organizations
  • Promote Special Olympics opportunities across Ability Beyond programs
  • Communicate event updates and training schedules
  • Identify new opportunities for inclusion, recreation, and community engagement
Support Program Growth
  • Assist with budget tracking and program planning
  • Support fundraising events and community initiatives
  • Help expand participation and enhance athlete experiences
What We're Looking For
  • Passion for athletics, inclusion, and community involvement
  • Strong organization and event coordination skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Experience in coaching, teaching, athletics, recreation, volunteer management, or human services preferred
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus 3 years of related experience; or
  • 2 years of college coursework in a related field plus 1 year of related experience
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Knowledge of Special Olympics programs is a plus
  • Must be eligible to become a registered Special Olympics Class A Volunteer
