As of Jul 3, 2026, the average hourly pay for local tree service in Tennessee is $18.68, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.72 and $20.53 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How much do tree removal people get paid?

Tree removal workers typically earn between $15 and $25 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $30,000 to $50,000. Pay can vary based on experience, certifications, and geographic location, and workers often use chainsaws, climbing gear, and safety equipment on the job.

What are local tree services?

Local tree services are professional companies or individuals in your area who specialize in the care, maintenance, and removal of trees. Their services typically include tree trimming, pruning, removal, stump grinding, and emergency storm damage cleanup. Hiring a local tree service ensures that your trees receive proper care, enhances your property's safety and appearance, and helps maintain the health of your landscape. Additionally, local providers are familiar with regional tree species, local regulations, and environmental considerations.

Is tree work a hard job?

Tree work is physically demanding and often involves working at heights, using heavy equipment, and performing strenuous tasks. It requires strength, safety awareness, and sometimes certification, making it a challenging but essential profession in arboriculture.

What is the average age of a tree service worker?

The average age of a tree service worker typically ranges from 30 to 45 years old, reflecting the physically demanding nature of the job and the experience required. Many workers start in their late teens or early twenties and gain skills through on-the-job training or certifications such as OSHA safety courses. Age can vary based on regional employment trends and individual career paths.

Do you need a license to cut trees?

In Florida, a tree service company or individual performing tree cutting or removal must hold a valid arborist or tree removal license issued by the state. Licensed professionals are also required to follow safety regulations and may need insurance coverage. Proper licensing ensures compliance with local laws and industry standards for safety and environmental protection.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in a local tree service role, and how can they be managed?

Working in a local tree service often involves unpredictable weather conditions, physically demanding tasks, and the need to operate heavy equipment safely. Professionals must be prepared to address hazards such as falling branches, proximity to power lines, and uneven terrain. To manage these challenges, teams typically prioritize safety training, use specialized protective gear, and practice effective communication on-site. Collaboration with other crew members ensures tasks are completed efficiently and safely, while ongoing training helps workers stay up-to-date with industry best practices.

Local Tree Services often handle routine maintenance and removals. Choosing between them depends on the complexity of your tree needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Local Tree Service professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Local Tree Service role, you need a solid understanding of arboriculture, safe tree removal and pruning techniques, and usually a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with chainsaws, wood chippers, climbing gear, and sometimes certifications like ISA Certified Arborist are typically required. Physical fitness, attention to detail, and strong teamwork and communication skills help professionals excel in this field. These competencies ensure safe, efficient work practices and high-quality service for clients while minimizing risks on the job.
