Job description

Position Summary

PreventEd is seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist to serve as a key member of the treatment court team in partnership with the St. Louis City Treatment Court. This role will primarily support individuals involved in the treatment court system by providing peer-based recovery support, advocacy, and engagement to promote sustained recovery, compliance with court requirements, and successful community reintegration. This position will maintain office space at the courthouse and will provide services to St. Louis City Treatment Court participants.

The Peer Support Specialist brings lived experience, hope, and practical recovery tools to help participants navigate challenges, access resources, and build long-term recovery capital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide peer-based recovery support to St. Louis City Treatment Court participants
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with participants using shared lived experience
  • Support participants in navigating treatment court requirements and expectations
  • Assist participants with goal setting, recovery planning, and identifying barriers to success
  • Provide advocacy and support in coordination with treatment court staff, case managers, probation/parole, and treatment providers
  • Connect participants to community resources including treatment, housing, employment, transportation, and recovery supports
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate peer support groups as appropriate
  • Document services in accordance with PreventEd and treatment court requirements
  • Participate in treatment court team meetings and case staffing
  • Maintain professional boundaries and model recovery-oriented behaviors
  • Support engagement, retention, and successful completion of the treatment court program

Qualifications

  • Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) credential required (Missouri certification preferred)
  • Lived experience in recovery from substance use
  • Strong understanding of recovery-oriented systems of care
  • Experience working with justice-involved populations preferred
  • Ability to build rapport with diverse populations
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel within St. Louis City as needed
  • Ability to pass required background checks for court and agency access
  • Class E Drivers License

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in or with treatment courts, drug courts, or criminal justice systems
  • Knowledge of local St. Louis City community resources
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • E-mail, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, data entry

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position works primarily in the community with local travel in the community. Must have a valid Driverโ€™s License, reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The physical requirements of this job includes: sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs on a regular basis; lifting up to 25lbs, pulling and/or pushing on occasion
