What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Local Nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Local Nanny, you need experience in childcare, knowledge of child development, and often basic first aid or CPR certification. Familiarity with child safety equipment, communication apps to update parents, and sometimes light housekeeping tools are commonly required. Patience, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills help build trust with both children and families. These skills ensure a safe, nurturing environment and effective communication, which are essential for the well-being and development of the children in your care.

How does a local nanny typically coordinate daily activities and routines with parents?

A local nanny usually works closely with parents to establish a consistent daily schedule that aligns with the family's routines and values. Communication is key—nannies often have regular check-ins or use a shared diary to update parents on meals, naps, outings, and developmental milestones. Flexibility is important, as plans may need to adjust for unexpected changes or the children's evolving needs. This collaborative approach ensures both the nanny and parents are aligned on expectations and childcare strategies.

What are local nannies?

Local nannies are childcare professionals who provide in-home care for children, typically in the family's own residence, within the same geographic area. Their responsibilities often include supervising children, preparing meals, helping with homework, organizing activities, and sometimes performing light household duties related to the children. Local nannies may work full-time, part-time, or on an as-needed basis, offering personalized care tailored to each family's needs. Hiring a local nanny can provide families with flexible, consistent, and trusted childcare, often developing a close bond with the children over time.

Job description

A lovely return client in Beverly Hills is looking for two local nannies to join their family starting end of July through end of February 2027. They have two boys ages 1 and 3. They are open to a rotating schedule between nannies, most likely week on/off OR 3 days on/4 days off/4 days on/3 days off so that weekends can be evenly split per nanny. Days will typically be 8-10 hours with flexibility for some later evenings, overnights, and travel (both domestic and international) with notice. Guaranteed weekly hours to be discussed based on final rotation. The older child will be in preschool mornings. The family’s current nanny will be traveling with them and then leaving the first week of August so there will ideally be some overlap prior to start date for training.

• Full-childcare including meal prep/cooking for both children, maintaining the children’s current sleeping routines and schedules, and providing an overall safe, warm, and developmentally appropriate environment.
• Driving including school drop offs and pick ups, driving to local playgrounds and activities, etc. Nanny car provided
• Light housekeeping related to the children including child laundry, keeping common areas tidy and organized, and restocking child items such as diapers and wipes

• Organized, detail-oriented
• Warm and nurturing personality
• Engaging and emotionally intuitive, especially around the school transition (gentle separation and after-school decompression) and starting new routines
• Team player who is comfortable collaborating with involved parents who will be in and out of the home

  • Strong experience with toddlers and young siblings close in age
  • Currently already local in Los Angeles and within commuting distance from Beverly Hills
  • Available for the duration, July 2026-end of February 2027
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Comfortable with a large, friendly golden retriever in the home
  • Up-to-date Tdap and Flu vaccines
  • Legal to work in the US
  • Trustline certified, or willing to certify before start date

$35-40 per hour, depending on experience. Overtime is paid according to California law
