Commercial Masonry Estimator

Commercial Masonry Estimator
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Masonry Estimator to join our estimating team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates and material takeoffs for commercial masonry projects, coordinating with project managers and subcontractors, and supporting bid submission processes. This role requires a strong knowledge of masonry systems, construction costs, and estimating best practices to help win profitable work and ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and prepare complete, accurate estimates for commercial masonry projects including brick, block, stone, veneer, and related scope.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, and RFIs to identify scope, constructability issues, and required clarifications.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases, material pricing, labor rates, and productivity factors specific to masonry work.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; prepare subcontract scopes and scopes of work for procurement.
  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, architects, and owners to clarify requirements and optimize cost solutions.
  • Prepare bid proposals, pricing summaries, and bid presentation materials; meet bid deadlines and follow bid submission procedures.
  • Perform value engineering and constructability reviews to identify cost savings and risk mitigation opportunities.
  • Attend pre-bid and pre-construction meetings and perform site visits to verify conditions and take field measurements when necessary.
  • Maintain organized estimate files, bid logs, and historical records to support future estimating accuracy.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in commercial masonry or construction estimating with demonstrated successful bids.
  • Strong knowledge of masonry materials, installation methods, productivity rates, and commercial building systems.
  • Proficiency with takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, Timberline) and Microsoft Office; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Excellent analytical, math, and negotiation skills with attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate estimates under deadline pressure.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across project teams.
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to perform occasional site visits; OSHA 10/30 or other safety certifications preferred.
  • Associate degree or certificate in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
