Job description

Job Title: Lowboy Driver


Overview:

The Lowboy Driver loads, unloads, and transports heavy equipment and attachments in a Lowbed truck in a safe and timely manner while abiding State and Federal Motor Carrier Laws.


Safety Expectations: All Suit-Kote employees are required to comply with all safety rules and to observe safe work practices and operating procedures at all times. Whenever on Suit-Kote property, at a customer facility, or operating Suit- Kote equipment, employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes the safety of the employee, co-workers and others.

Responsibilities/Job Duties:

  • Ensure safety and security of cargo
  • Maintain log book
  • Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather and in or out of tight loading and unloading areas. Must be able to back up equipment in all types of weather and conditions. This includes backing up long distances, around corners, and in and around very tight corners in all situations.
  • Report all accidents involving driver or company equipment and any highway safety hazards noted enroute to location
  • Ability to keep equipment clean or clean it when needed
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all federal, state and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle
  • Work in all types of weather conditions

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Valid CDL A
  • Able to work efficiently and independently
  • Exhibit strong customer service skills and willingness to work in a team environment
  • Strong work ethic
  • Must be able to communicate with co-workers and supervisor
  • Physical Organization and time management
  • Flexibility in hours - overtime and weekend hours may be necessary
  • Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required and a background check will be conducted
  • Consent to a DMV license evaluation
  • Must have or be willing to obtain an OSHA 10 Hour Safety Certificate

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds repetitively
  • Observe and comply with necessary PPE requirements
  • Must be able to work in a noisy area with many odors present
  • Physically able to open and/or close dome lids on trailers; hook and/or unhook trailers from truck; climb ladder to check holding tank, and handle hoses associated with this position
  • Bending, stretching, stooping, kneeling, crawling and squatting

Other Preferred Qualities:

  • Ability to read and understand SDS
  • Hazmat endorsement a plus
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)

Salary Rate: $26-$35
