Position Vacancy Announcement
Florida A&M University Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety/Building Maintenance/Housing Maintenance Department is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Maintenance Specialistvacancy.
Responsibilities
Repairs damaged steam and hot water lines by replacing pipes, fittings and valves above and underground as needed; Installs and repairs valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, sanitary fixtures, etc; maintains faucets, wash bowls and piping systems by opening clogged drains; replaces washers on leaky faucets, etc.
Installs and repairs condensate pumps, hot water pumps, condenser pumps, chemical pumps, sump pumps, steam traps, steam valves, reducing valves, strainers; replaces insulation; performs preventive maintenance (P.M.) on all equipment; Repairs damaged steam and hot water lines by replacing pipes, fittings and valves above and underground as needed.
Installs, repairs or replaces various incandescent, high intensity discharge and fluorescent fixtures; Replaces ballast, light switches, receptacles, circuit breakers, fuses and other electrical components.
Repairs windows, walls, ceilings, stairs, furniture, and floors. Includes basic masonry, tile work, wood work, caulking, painting, and hanging doors.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and five years of related experience; or trade or vocational school graduate and five years of working experience in carpentry, locksmith, painting, life safety, electrical, plumbing and general building systems and service equipment installation, maintenance and repair.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of the procedures and methods for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing & heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) fixtures and accessories, and electrical components and systems;
Knowledge of the procedures and methods of operating mechanical systems and equipment maintenance;
Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work;
Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades/functions;
Skill in using specialized tools and equipment relating to maintenance and repair work;
Ability to read blue prints and schematic drawings;
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and,
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Anticipated Salary Range
The salary range is between $36,000 to $40,000 commensurate with relevant experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Must maintain a valid Driver's License.
Pay Plan
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. Time Limited Position
This position is "time-limited". Time limited positions are funded by a contract or grant, auxiliaries and local funds having a defined expiration date. Schedule
Scheduled work hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
PLEASE NOTE: This position is an essential position that is expected to function during emergency situations.
This position will also rotate On-Call duties and work one Saturday and Sunday 8AM - 5PM every 5 weeks.
