This Highway Guardrail Installer position requires performing a variety of tasks related to highway maintenance and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies and procedures and safety guidelines. This position requires a valid driver's license.


Essential Job Functions: Includes, but is not limited to, the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions may be required as deemed necessary by management personnel to contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Reading of plans and schematics.
  • Layout of Highway Guardrail.
  • Handling and installing all of the materials for guardrail installation.
  • Loading and unloading materials on a flat-bed truck and/or trailer by hand, digging holes, using power tools, etc.
  • Operation of Post Pounder/Driver Truck.
  • Drive long distances to deliver materials to jobsites in a timely manner.
  • Load, unload and record cargo deliveries. Maintain paperwork.
  • Refuel and clean vehicle.
  • Inspect trucks and record issues. Report road incidents to the dispatcher and report mechanical problems to maintenance personnel.
  • Follow traffic laws and follow accident procedures.
  • Plan routes using GPS system.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years guardrail installation
  • Proven work experience as a truck driver with extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
  • Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, AVL units, CB etc.)
  • Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly
  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)

Requirements

  • Must possess a current and valid driver's license, will require passing MVR and controlled substance test, may require background and criminal record check. Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
  • Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time, standing and walking for extended periods of time (more than several hours), loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles, walking on varying ground surfaces and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Working from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds
  • Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smart phones, physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively
  • Working outdoors, working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions which include high speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances
  • Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction site including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities
  • Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans
  • Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone
  • Communicating clearly - both written and verbally, ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor
  • Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime and working individually and as a team with other employees
  • Must maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing
