Join our team as a Crime Scene & Evidence Technician, where every piece of evidence you collect and every scene you process plays a vital role in the pursuit of justice. In this position, you'll perform advanced technical work involving the recognition, documentation, collection, preservation, processing, storage, and disposition of physical and digital evidence. From processing crime scenes and managing evidence to latent print development, forensic photography, digital evidence management, and courtroom testimony, you'll help ensure every investigation is supported by accurate, reliable, and professionally handled evidence.

You'll work alongside patrol officers, detectives, prosecutors, medical examiners, forensic laboratories, and partner agencies while maintaining compliance with department policies, Florida Statutes, CJIS requirements, and recognized forensic best practices. Protect the integrity of every investigation. Serve your community with purpose. Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this position.

Crime Scene Respond to crime scenes and process physical evidence. Photographs, documents, sketches, and measures crime scenes. Collect biological, trace, firearms, impression, and DNA evidence.

Document/ process scenes using Leica laser scanning and forensic photography. Conduct latent print processing at scenes and in the laboratory. Prepare reports and testify in court.

Evidence & Property Receive, package, barcode, and securely store evidence and property. Maintain chain of custody. Conduct evidence inventory and audits.

Prepare evidence for laboratory submission. Return property and firearms in accordance with policy. Coordinate evidence, destruction and disposition.

Maintain evidence storage facilities. Digital Evidence Manage digital evidence within AXON Evidence.com. Review body-worn camera uploads for proper categorization

Ensure digital evidence is associated with the correct case reports. Process digital evidence requests. Maintain digital custody chain.

Laboratory Prepare and maintain forensic chemicals. Process evidence for latent fingerprints using powder, cyanoacrylate fuming, and chemical methods. Maintain laboratory equipment and monitor the upkeep of forensic chemicals.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in forensic science, Criminal Justice or related field. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Ability to complete and maintain the Property and Evidence Certification within two years of hire date.

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects up to 25-50 pounds and climbs ladders.

The employee will also work at crime scenes, outdoors, and occasionally in cold, extreme heat, or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, decompose and irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Required to work 40 hours per week but must have the ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and work extended periods on an as needed basis. Must be able to provide 24/7 availability to crime scenes and calls for service.

Must be able to work in an indoor office setting, a controlled laboratory setting, and outdoors under a variety of weather conditions. May be occasionally required to work in hazardous environments. This position may require working under stressful and high-risk conditions.
