This role requires a hands-on field leader who understands the complexities of occupied healthcare facilities, including infection prevention, life safety, phased construction, and maintaining uninterrupted patient care.

As Superintendent, you will lead all day-to-day field operations, directing craft personnel and trade partners while ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with AHCA requirements, healthcare regulations, and Ajax's quality standards. You will serve as the primary field leader, working closely with project management, hospital staff, design teams, and subcontractors to successfully deliver projects that support critical healthcare infrastructure.

The Superintendent reports directly to the General Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead all field operations for healthcare construction projects, including renovations, additions, and new construction within active hospital and medical campus environments.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily construction activities, coordinating manpower, materials, equipment, logistics, and sequencing while minimizing disruption to hospital operations.
  • Manage craft employees, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents.
  • Coordinate construction activities with hospital representatives, clinical staff, facility management, inspectors, and trade partners to maintain uninterrupted patient care and operational continuity.
  • Implement and enforce Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA), Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM), and other healthcare-specific safety and environmental requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with AHCA regulations, Joint Commission standards, owner protocols, and all applicable federal, state, and local healthcare construction requirements.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications; resolve field issues and recommend appropriate construction methods, sequencing, and equipment.
  • Support project management with project planning, scheduling, quality control, documentation, and field reporting.
  • Lead quality assurance efforts by proactively identifying and resolving deficiencies while maintaining Ajax's high standards for workmanship.
  • Monitor project productivity, labor performance, and resource utilization to meet project milestones and contractual commitments.
  • Review and approve field purchase requisitions, work authorizations, and field change documentation.
  • Perform or oversee field layout and engineering activities.
  • Hire, train, mentor, evaluate, and develop craft personnel while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and safety-focused team culture.
  • Promote an uncompromising commitment to safety by enforcing company policies, conducting daily safety planning, documenting corrective actions, and partnering with Safety leadership to maintain a zero-incident culture.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of superintendent or field supervisory experience on commercial construction projects, with significant healthcare construction experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects within occupied hospitals or active healthcare facilities while maintaining patient care and operational continuity.
  • Thorough knowledge of AHCA requirements, healthcare construction regulations, infection prevention protocols (ICRA), Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM), and phased construction practices.
  • Experience coordinating with hospital facility teams, clinical staff, owners, inspectors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, scheduling, sequencing, building systems, and quality control.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to proactively solve field challenges and make sound decisions in fast-paced environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to perform the following tasks:
