Building Location:Support Services BuildingDepartment:1007350 PROVIDER RECRUITING - EH SSJob Description:The Director of Physician and Provider Recruitment is responsible for leading the collaboration of design, implementation, and execution of physician and advanced practice professional (APP) recruitment strategies across Essentia Health. The Director is accountable and responsible for the provider recruitment team, builds and sustains trusted partnerships with medical and operational leaders, and drives continuous improvement through data, market insight, and innovation.Education Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, or a related field

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of recruitment strategies for physicians and APPs, aligned with Essentia's goals and patient care priorities
  • Provide oversight of full-cycle recruitment processes, ensuring a seamless and professional candidate experience Build strong partnerships with executive and clinical leadership to align recruitment with workforce planning and growth strategies
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the provider recruitment team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
  • Partner with HR, Provider Compensation, Legal, Payer Enrollment and Credentialing to streamline processes, ensure compliance, and accelerate onboarding
  • Use metrics, dashboards, and analytics to monitor recruitment effectiveness (e.g., time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, retention rates) and provide regular updates to senior leadership
  • Represent Essentia Health at recruitment events, conferences, and residency/fellowship programs to build brand visibility Develop and maintain relationships with external recruitment vendors, locum agencies, and professional associations; negotiate contracts to ensure cost-effective services
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to strengthen Essentia's provider brand in the marketplace
  • Stay informed on national and regional physician workforce trends and integrate best practices into recruitment strategies Support future integration with provider-focused HR business partner roles to ensure a coordinated approach to provider experience, engagement, and retention
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations and uphold best practices in equitable and inclusive hiring
  • Partner in continuous improvement efforts, leveraging data and lean practices to improve speed, efficiency, and candidate satisfaction

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in healthcare, provider recruitment, or talent acquisition
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience with responsibility for team management, resource allocation, and financial accountability
  • Demonstrated success in building and executing recruitment strategies for physicians and APPs
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, credentialing, and provider workforce dynamics
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Proven ability to use data and analytics to drive decisions and improve recruitment performance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience in a large integrated health system or multi-specialty medical group
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, or related)
  • Experience in workforce planning, provider retention strategies, and recruitment marketing
  • Professional certification in HR or talent acquisition (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR, AAPPR)

Work Location:

  • This position is remote; candidates must reside within or near Essentia Health's service area, with the ability to maintain a regular in-person presence in both Fargo, ND and Duluth, MN to support collaboration with physician and system leadership.
  • We are unable to employ candidates residing in California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, or Colorado.
