Job description

Loader (Swing Shift)

Summary:ย Operates overhead cranes, hostler, and forklift to move, and position loads of steel within the production yard and facility.

Salary:ย $20.00 -$28.25/hr

Most employees start between $20.00 and $24.13. ย The higher end of the range, $28.25, is reserved for candidates with exceptional experience or qualifications.

Shift:ย Mon-Fri, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Benefits:ย ย eligible after 30 days month following employment

PTO:ย prorated award and annual award in Januaryย 

Holiday Pay after 30 days of employment

Employee Engagement Program:ย Eligible day after employment

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesย include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Actively participate in Seaport Steel's Safety Program.
  • Load Trailers using a hostler, forklift, and cranes.
  • Review work order paperwork to ensure the accuracy of the load being built.
  • Unload incoming trailers and railcars.
  • Observes load hookup and determine the safety of the load.
  • Manipulates or depresses crane control buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.
  • Uses hoisting attachments such as hook, sling, or bucket as load requires.
  • Cleans and maintains crane and hoisting mechanism.
  • Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
