Summary: 

 

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for overseeing and optimizing daily transportation and material movement operations. This role ensures efficient route planning, scale operations, carrier performance, and customer service while maintaining compliance, safety, and cost-effectiveness. The Logistics Specialist serves as a key point of contact between internal teams, customers, and external carriers to ensure seamless execution of logistics activities.

 

What you’ll be contributing

 

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines. 
  • Plans, schedules, and optimizes daily routes to maximize efficiency, minimize transportation costs & provide an excellent customer experience.
  • Monitors and adjusts routes in real-time to address operational changes, delays, or disruptions.
  • Coordinates with customers, dispatch, operations, and drivers to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Analyzes carrier and route performance, identifies & promotes opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Oversees scale operations, including accurate weighing of inbound/outbound loads.
  • Ensures proper documentation & routing of weights, tickets, and load data.
  • Maintains compliance with legal, customer, and company requirements related to weight regulations.
  • Identifies discrepancies and promptly resolves load measurement issues.
  • Manages relationships with third-party carriers and trucking companies.
  • Sources, evaluates, and onboard new carriers.
  • Monitors carrier performance, including quality of service to customers & operations, safety, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensures carriers comply with customer & company standards, contracts, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for customers regarding shipment status, delays, and inquiries.
  • Provides proactive updates and resolves issues quickly to maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Collaborates with sales and operations teams to meet customer expectations and service levels.
  • Handles customer complaints professionally and implements corrective actions.
  • Coordinates daily logistics activities across multiple sites and regions.
  • Maintains accurate records of shipments, deliveries, logistics transactions & ensure Sarbanes Oxley compliance.
  • Ensures carrier compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads the development and implementation of logistics processes and procedures.
  • Supervises customer service representatives and other administrative support staff, providing direction and support.
  • Tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time pick-ups, delivery, cost efficiency, and asset utilization.
  • Prepares reports as needed and analyzes logistics data to support decision-making.
  • Identifies trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.  

To succeed in this position, you will need:

 

  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. 
  • Minimum 4 Year/ Bachelors Degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations
  • 5 years of experience in dispatching, route planning, plant processing, or fleet coordination preferred. 
  • Proficient in customer service skills.
  • Self-starter, able to identify opportunities & support growth of new projects.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities.
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in logistics software, TMS (Transportation Management Systems), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance (preferred).

What to expect in a cement environment:  

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
