This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, supporting Manufacturing and Supply Chain for our Huntsville, AL operations.

About the Role

This is a hybrid role: part shipping and receiving, part hands-on technician. You will run the front door of our factory and then stay with the hardware once it's inside.

On the logistics side, you'll own the movement of hardware from the moment a truck arrives, whether backed into the dock or staged in the designated shipping and receiving area, through receipt and handoff to Quality or the production floor. You'll own the outbound side as well, packaging and shipping hardware to suppliers and outside processors.

On the technician side, you'll work directly with the material you receive: preparing and cutting raw stock, building kits, setting up and rigging lifts, fabricating crates and shipping fixtures, and supporting the production floor with hands-on material prep and handling.

Nothing gets built here until you receive it, and nothing leaves here without you.

Responsibilities:

Receiving & Dock Operations

• Unload inbound trucks at the dock or in the designated shipping and receiving area, operating a forklift to remove palletized and crated material from trailers and flatbeds.
• Move heavy and oversized loads by forklift, including long-length material and loads near rated capacity, using proper load assessment and travel practices.
• Verify quantity, part number, and revision against the purchase order and packing list prior to acceptance.
• Confirm required supplier paperwork accompanies the hardware and route documentation packages to Quality.
• Perform a visual condition check for shipping damage, contamination, moisture, or compromised packaging; document with photos and escalate to Quality and Procurement.
• Perform receiving transactions in the ERP/MRP system, establishing lot and serial traceability at receipt.
• Tag, segregate, and stage material into Quality inspection queues, hold areas, or controlled stock locations per material control procedures.
• Prioritize the receiving queue based on production need dates and program priorities, coordinating with Planning and Procurement.
• Initiate carrier claims for shipments damaged or lost in transit.

Technician & Production Support

• Perform hands-on material prep on raw stock and piping materials, including saw cutting to length, deburring, edge break, and cleaning prior to issue to the floor.
• Transfer, verify, and preserve heat, lot, and material identification markings when stock is cut or repackaged, maintaining unbroken traceability.
• Build, modify, and repair wooden crates, skids, and shipping containers using standard hand and power tools.
• Fabricate and maintain simple shipping fixtures, dunnage, blocking, and bracing for high-value or oversized hardware.
• Rig and lift hardware using overhead cranes, slings, straps, shackles, and lifting fixtures; select rigging appropriate to load weight and center of gravity.
• Install, remove, and inspect protective closures, caps, plugs, bags, and desiccant per preservation requirements.
• Take and record basic dimensional and identification measurements (tape, calipers, wall thickness) to confirm part identity against drawings and purchase orders.
• Perform operator-level maintenance and pre-use inspections on forklifts, pallet jacks, saws, lifts, and rigging hardware; tag out and report defects.
• Support facility and equipment moves, install and reconfigure racking and storage systems, and assist with layout changes on the floor.

Shipping & Outbound Logistics

• Package, crate, and ship hardware to suppliers and outside processing vendors, selecting methods appropriate to the value and fragility of the hardware.
• Stage and load outbound shipments by forklift, including heavy and oversized crates, ensuring loads are blocked, braced, and secured for transit.
• Generate and verify packing lists, bills of lading, and commercial invoices; select carriers and service levels per program requirements.
• Track and expedite critical outbound and return shipments, escalating schedule risks early.
• Maintain accurate shipping records and traceability documentation in the ERP.

Inventory & Material Control

• Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts, location audits, and resolution of transaction discrepancies.
• Kit, stage, and issue material to Manufacturing and Test in support of production schedules.
• Maintain shelf-life and limited-life records, flagging expired or at-risk material for control.
• Handle and store hardware per cleanliness, preservation, and ESD requirements.
• Maintain organized, 5S-compliant dock, receiving, stockroom, shipping, and material prep areas.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Communicate receiving throughput, shipment status, and material holds across Quality, Engineering, Procurement, Planning, and Manufacturing to minimize schedule impact.
• Provide buyers and planners with receipt status and discrepancy details to support supplier follow-up.
• Provide accurate turnaround time estimates for receipt, material prep, and shipment to support production planning.
• Identify inefficiencies and recurring discrepancy patterns, and drive process improvements.
• Support the introduction of, and train others on, new material handling and shop equipment.
• Work safely and professionally in an industrial manufacturing environment, adhering to all site safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of combined hands-on experience in shipping/receiving, warehouse, or material handlingandtechnician, shop, or production support work in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated forklift experience loading and unloading trucks at a dock and in open staging areas, including heavy and oversized loads; must be able to obtain and maintain site forklift certification.
• Hands-on proficiency with common hand and power tools (saws, drills, drivers, measuring tools) and the ability to work from written instructions.
• Ability to safely operate, or be trained and certified to operate, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, and overhead cranes, including basic rigging.
• Working knowledge of ERP/MRP or warehouse management systems, plus standard office software.
• Ability to read and compare purchase orders, packing lists, and part numbers/revisions with a high degree of accuracy.
• Demonstrated accuracy in documentation and records management where traceability is critical.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey receipt status and discrepancies to buyers, planners, and leadership.
• Self-motivated, able to independently prioritize competing tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven ability to build trust and contribute to a respectful, inclusive team culture.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience receiving, handling, and storing raw metal stock and piping materials, including bar, plate, sheet, tube, pipe, fittings, and valves, with an understanding of how alloy, size, schedule, and heat/lot markings identify each item.
• Experience cutting, deburring, and preparing raw stock, including saw operation and material identification transfer.
• Current forklift certification, with experience across multiple lift classes or capacities.
• Formal rigging or overhead crane training; experience with critical or high-value lifts.
• Experience moving oversized loads requiring extended forks or load-handling attachments.
• Experience unloading flatbed, step-deck, or non-dock-height trailers.
• Experience with custom crating and packaging of high-value or fragile hardware, including crate fabrication.
• Experience with carrier coordination and freight documentation.
• Experience with cycle counting, inventory accuracy programs, and nonconforming material control.
• Familiarity with ESD, cleanliness, and preservation handling requirements.
• Ability to read engineering drawings to confirm part identity and dimensions.
• Lean/5S experience.
