Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases is a leading provider of high pressure and cryogenic systems, cryogenic pumps, heat exchangers, process systems, turboexpanders, and services for liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied hydrogen (LH2), compressed natural gas (CNG), compressed hydrogen (GH2) and industrial gases (LN2, LAr, LO2) industries. Applications include fueling stations, trailer loading systems, marine fuel system, LNG peak shaving, power generation, and virtual pipelines.

We are a subsidiary of Nikkiso Company Ltd, a leading industrial manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, with $1.5 B USD in annual revenue, 8000 + employees worldwide, and publicly traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.


We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer III for our Nikkiso Applied Technology business unit in Escondido, CA. The ideal candidate will assist with mechanical calculations such as valve sizing, PSV sizing, pump/compressor sizing, pipe stress, flow modeling and mechanical design such as P&IDs, piping isometrics, pump skid design and trailer loading skid designs.  The position will require some project management as well that includes interfacing with the customer, providing schedule updates, and submitting all required project documentation. Typical projects involve cryogenic transfer systems and high pressure (20,000 psig) gas transfer systems. This is an inperson, onsite role that emphasizes direct collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and field teams. Remote or hybrid work is not available.

Salary Range:

$83,821 To $153,600 Per Year

  • Provide mechanical engineering design of cryogenic and high-pressure system. 
  • Ability to meet key performance indicators, including completing all contractual obligations on schedule and within budget.
  • Ability to work in team environment
  • Application of Engineering Design Codes, including but not limited to piping system design code and pressure vessel design codes. 
  • Responsible for component selection.
  • Perform thermodynamic and pipe flow calculations.
  • Support field start-up and commissioning activities, including on-site troubleshooting, system validation, and collaboration with operations and service teams.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years experience or Masterโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Fluid transfer system knowledge (pump selection, pipe flow calculations, relief valve sizing)
  • Ability to read and develop P&ID
  • Familiarity with P&IDs
  • Familiarity with pump selection and pump operations
  • Working knowledge of system safety and risk assessment techniques (HAZOP, HAZID, What-If) and their integration into mechanical design and design reviews
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, or SolidWorks or similar software
  • Required Travel: Up to 25%

Preferred Experience

  • Mastersโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Cryogenic system design, fabrication, and start-up experience
  • High pressure system design, fabrication, and start-up experience
  • 5+ years of related experience in cryogenic or high-pressure systems 
  • Startup and Commissioning Experience
  • System Control Narrative Development
  • Centrifugal and positive displacement pump system selection and integration
