Job description

This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the levels posted, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise. 

The engineer provides highly technical engineering services and directs the work of others in specific technical service areas such as mechanical and electrical activities. This position is on the LNG team.

BHE Pipeline Group consists of Berkshire Hathaway Energy's interstate natural gas pipeline companies, BHE GT&S, Kern River Gas Transmission Company and Northern Natural Gas Company. Combined, BHE Pipeline Group operates approximately 21,200 miles of pipeline with a design capacity of approximately 21.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, owns assets in 27 states and is an industry leader in natural gas transportation.   • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution is needed for all levels. 
  • The Engineer I position requires zero to one year of related engineering experience. Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office applications. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong technical writing ability. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Project management skills: ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • The Engineer II position requires one to three years of engineering experience. Must have significant engineering knowledge of natural gas industry related to the design and installation of pipelines, compressor stations and process equipment. 
  • The Sr Engineer position requires five years of industry experience as a practicing engineer and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license, then must have eight or more years as a practicing engineer. Advanced technical degree or registration as a licensed professional engineer in a state served by Northern preferred. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills. 
  • Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. 
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. 
  • Support the Company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.
  • Provide technical engineering advice, programs and training to regional operations management and appropriate personnel in one or more functional area (mechanical, electrical). 
  • Develop and participate in the development of technical protection and maintenance programs in one or more functional area that is compatible with company, operational, governmental and safety requirements. 
  • Assist operations management in the implementation, operation and modification of established programs. 
  • Conduct periodic reviews/audits to assure program, procedure and code compliance. 
  • Make recommendations and coordinate activities between regions to resolve deficiencies or other operational problems. 
  • Provide engineering/technical guidance and training to appropriate regional personnel in areas of functional accountability. 
  • Act as a consultant for regional operations personnel to identify and resolve problems, analyze malfunctions or make complex modifications or repairs in assigned functional areas. Develop or coordinate the development and implementation of region-wide plans in assigned functional areas. 
  • Monitor and report on program status or plans. 
  • Provide technical leadership to staff. 
  • Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. 
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
