Job Description
BHE GT&S has an exciting career opportunity for an Associate LNG Technician (Mechanical)/LNG Technician (Mechanical)/Sr LNG Technician (Mechanical) located at our Cove Point facility in Lusby, MD.
Responsibilities
The Associate LNG Technician/LNG Technician/Senior LNG Technician (Mechanical) reports directly to the Supervisor-LNG Operations (Mechanical) and is a member of multi-disciplined team responsible for the safe, compliant and reliable operation and maintenance of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import/export and re-gasification terminal mechanical equipment including LNG process systems infrastructure, emergency response systems, power/steam generation rotating machinery and auxiliary support systems.
The Associate LNG Technician/LNG Technician/Senior LNG Technician (Mechanical) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading a wide range of rotating and static mechanical equipment, including but not limited to compressors, gas turbines, steam turbines, fans, pumps, motors, pressure vessels, utilities, piping systems, valves, tanks, loading arms, and related mechanical components typically found in large-scale industrial environments such as LNG terminals, power generation facilities, chemical and petrochemical plants, manufacturing operations, NGL processing facilities, cryogenic natural gas processing plants, and other hydrocarbon facilities.
The Associate LNG Technician/LNG Technician/Senior LNG Technician (Mechanical) is a multi-level posted position. The successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate skill level based on their demonstrated competencies, qualifications, and relevant experience.
The successful candidate must be willing to work in an industrial environment and will be responsible for the mechanical reliability of the facility's equipment while ensuring the facility operates in full compliance with site, company, local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and procedures while also supporting continuous improvement, reliability initiatives, and cross-functional coordination. A strong commitment to safety and adherence to established protocols is essential to maintain the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the terminal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform all activities with emphasis on a proactive and preventative maintenance approach based on industry's best practices, manufacturer recommendations, and regulatory requirements to include but not limited to: FERC, PHMSA, NFPA, USCG, MDOL, MDE and EPA.
  • Recognizes the safety, environmental and facility reliability consequences of actions taken maintaining the highest levels of safety and environmental compliance.
  • Work closely with and directly support the facility's operations teams, providing mechanical technical support to ensure the plant mechanical maintenance activities meet operational needs.
  • Respond to facility mechanical related issues affecting facility operations, assisting with start-ups, shutdowns, and abnormal operating conditions, and implementing improvements that enhance operational reliability and performance.
  • Perform hands-on field work on complex mechanical equipment, including troubleshooting, repairing and restoring equipment using appropriate hand tools, power tools, precision measurement tools and lifting/rigging equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance activities including scheduled inspections, lubrication, testing, and parts replacements.
  • Perform mooring line handling and associated marine-terminal duties required for LNG carrier loading/unloading operations, including securing/adjusting mooring lines, and supporting docking/undocking evolutions.
  • Read, interpret, and maintain mechanical drawings and configuration-control documentation to ensure accuracy, traceability, and compliance with site standards.
  • Working with site's Mechanical Engineer, submit drawing and configuration changes per the site's modification and Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Support installation, testing, and startup of new mechanical equipment.
  • Attends required on-site and off-site training and proactively completes assigned self-study and qualification programs to maintain all technical and safety certifications.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (Maximo and Oracle) to manage assets, work orders, inventory, and scheduling to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and streamline maintenance operations with a proactive approach.
  • Obtain a solid understanding of all facility mechanical maintenance practices and mechanical equipment associated with LNG Liquefaction, LNG Regasification, Ship Loading and Power Generation processes.
  • May physically lead and direct large-scale mechanical maintenance projects in the field, providing hands-on oversight and work execution control for contract personnel.
  • May assist in the development, implementation, and execution of mechanical maintenance policies and procedures.
  • May be required to be on-call and/or work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Preferred: Mechanical craft, lead or supervisor experience or journeyman level or higher operations experience in LNG production/processing, power generation or petrochemical industries. Completion of a formal mechanical maintenance craft training program is a plus. Startup/Commissioning experience is a plus. Maximo and Oracle experience is a plus.

Qualifications
Associate LNG Technician (Mechanical)
  • 0-2 years' experience in an industrial setting working in a mechanical field where hands on craft experience is gained.

LNG Technician (Mechanical)
  • Three (3) years' experience in an industrial setting working in a mechanical field where hands on craft experience is gained.

Sr. LNG Technician (Mechanical)
  • Five (5) years' experience in a mechanical setting working in a Mechanical and/or Controls setting or similar related field including related military experience.
  • Preferred: Experience in power generation, LNG production/processing or petrochemical industries considered a plus. Completion of a formal craft training program is a plus.

For All Levels
  • Applied knowledge of pumps, compressors, gas turbines, motors, vessels, utilities, piping, tanks, unloading arms, etc., and component parts
  • Full competency in performing equipment preventive maintenance activities as required
  • Previous work experience demonstrating technical knowledge of Mechanical equipment and repair
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Ability to provide guidance and/or training to less experienced Technicians and Operators
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong analytical and deductive reasoning skills, oral and written communication skills, technical writing skills, Mechanical skills, and mathematical skills
  • Full ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment or process problems
  • Full ability to conduct site inspections or walk downs, including working at heights
  • Ability to maintain drawings and configuration documentation as related to Mechanical
