Job Summary:
A Kitchen Staff Position focuses on food preparation and meal plating for guests. Examples of Kitchen Staff duties include preparing ingredients, discarding expired items, maintaining kitchen stations, and ensuring areas are clean and sanitized, placing food items on plates, maintaining cooking equipment, and operating ovens, fryers, and cooking appliances. Any part of working in a kitchen may include duties such as dishwashing, appliance upkeep, and general cleaning. Essential skills for Kitchen Staff Positions are cooking abilities, stamina, teamwork, time management, being able to work in a fast-paced environment, and attention to safety. Food Safety & Restaurant Sanitization practices are the most critical characteristics within the Kitchen Staff position. The Kitchen Staff's primary function is to learn and prepare ingredients, to cook the menu items according to Barrel House standards while abiding by all sanitation and food safety protocols.

  • Responsible for preparing ingredients for menu items in a neat, accurate, and timely way.
  • Follows prep list and preps items accordingly and within allotted time frame.
  • Follows the prep recipes - ensures the quality and consistency of every batch recipe that goes from our prep kitchen to the proper workstation on the line.

Specific Kitchen Staff Roles may include:
  • Food Preparation- Prep cooks do the groundwork in the kitchen to make the jobs of their teammates easier. A prep cook's responsibilities include preparing food by washing produce and raw goods, chopping ingredients, and setting up cooking stations. Prep cooks are also responsible for storing food safely and cleaning up workstations. Top characteristics for a prep cook include Organization, Cleanliness, & Food Handler's Certification (or expressed knowledge of food handling procedures). Proper use of blades, knives, and kitchen tools.
  • Line Cook- One of the most vital positions in a restaurant, a line cook picks up where the prep cook leaves off by executing orders. Line Cooks are assigned to a cooking station (salad, grilling, frying, etc.) and are responsible for working with their teammates to execute orders in a timely manner. Role characteristics may include the ability to work well under pressure and stand for extended periods of time. Dishwasher- Dishwashers are the unsung heroes of the kitchen. A restaurant dishwasher's main role is cleaning dishes, silverware, and glassware after guests have used it. They are responsible for keeping the dishwashing station clean and safe to use. Dishwashers may also play a role in cleaning food preparation surfaces, keeping dishes organized, and managing dish inventory. Characteristics for a dishwasher include physical abilities to stand for extended periods of time and to carry heavy objects and products.

Qualifications:
  • Efficiently operate a (Point Of Sale) POS system, specifically a Kitchen Display System (KDS).
  • Be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to on-site location.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be over the age of 18 years old.

Compensation: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
