PURPOSE

The Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations and is responsible for all public- facing external communications, media relations, and information in support of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Athletics.

DESCRIPTION

Functional Area 1: Sports Information

Percent Effort: 70%

  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the athletic media relations staff serving 16 intercollegiate sports.

  • Serve as the primary athletics department liaison to local, regional, and national media as well as other universities, conferences, and organizations.

  • Serve as spokesman/ambassador for the athletics department and the university.

  • Supervise the writing and circulating of news releases to the media.

  • Assist with the coordination of game day operations for several sports.

  • Maintain current and historical statistics including records for athletic teams.

  • Nominate student-athletes for athletic and academic awards within the university, conference and NCAA.

  • Recruit, train, supervise and schedule student-workers to help with gameday functions.

  • Collaborate with the School of Communications on projects and internships.

  • Responsible for live stat production at home events.

  • Travel with assigned teams as necessary.

Functional Area 2: Strategic Communication

Percent Effort: 20%

  • Manage athletics website in conjunction with the Associate AD of Marketing, Fan engagement and Creative Content (goislanders.com) with oversight of all information and content including feature stories and student-athlete spotlights.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with external relations to a) enhance the visibility of the Islanders Athletic program in the conference, state and nationally, b) advance TAMU-CC mission, vision and branding, c) develop and implement printed and online materials aligned with Athletics design standards and TAMU-CC Brand and Style Guide.

  • Serve as primary live broadcast web streaming technician with ESPN+ streaming productions.

  • Maintain the infrastructure and processes behind ESPN+ streaming productions.

  • Organize all athletics photographs and supervise archiving of all video elements.

Functional Area 3: Compliance

Percent Effort: 10%

  • Administer budget for the athletic communications unit.

  • Responsible for verifying all public facing data.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, sports administration, or closelyrelated field.

  • Two (2) years of related experience in athletics communications or broadcasting

  • Additional education may be considered as a substitute for the minimum experience required:

    • Master's degree in communications, journalism, sports administration, or closely related field

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree.

  • Demonstrated student-worker supervisory experience.

  • Strong knowledge of SIDEARM CMS or comparable website management software.

  • Experience with Adobe Premier or other video editing software. Live video streaming experience.

  • Intermediate skills in various computer programs including StatCrew, Genius, Photoshop and InDesign.
