Position Summary
The Arena Engineering Intern at Moody Center will work alongside professionals in the live entertainment, sports, and venue management industry at a top arena. This internship will support the Engineering team by helping with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance tasks. This internship provides hands-on exposure to facility maintenance practices within a large, complex entertainment venue. Interns will gain working knowledge and experience working with preventive maintenance procedures, cost analysis, and how to use a 24/7 work-order system, while also assisting with special project planning. The intern will assist with preventive maintenance activities, respond to work orders, support routine inspections of building systems, and participate in maintenance and facility improvement projects. The intern will also gain experience using a computerized maintenance management system and develop a foundational understanding of building systems operations in a high-traffic venue environment.
This role pays an hourly rate of $13.00
This role is expected to last from May 18th, 2026 and will end on August 7, 2026.
This position will remain open until July 3rd, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Engineering team with maintenance activities related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general facility systems.
  • Learn and support the execution of the venue's preventive maintenance program, including inspections, documentation, and routine servicing the established preventive maintenance program.
  • Observe and assist with troubleshooting and minor repairs under the supervision of engineering staff.
  • Learn how to create cost analysis for maintenance and capital improvement projects, including preparation, basic cost tracking, and coordination of materials or equipment.
  • Learn how to use 24/7 Workorder system, and assist with tasks assigned.
  • Support the planning of special projects.
  • Ability to manipulate small tools and equipment.
  • Follow all workplace safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Frequent bending, lifting of heavy ojects, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building, exposure to loud noises, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Be comfortable in close quarters and small spaces.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the internship, the Engineering Intern will be able to:
Develop foundational technical skills in building systems: Gain hands-on experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance to understand how core building engineering systems operate and interact.
Apply preventive maintenance and work-order management practices: Learn to follow an established preventive maintenance program and use the 24/7 work-order system to track tasks, prioritize needs, and support efficient facility operations.
Strengthen analytical and problem-solving abilities: Build the ability to analyze maintenance needs, identify issues, and assist in creating cost analyses for repairs, improvements, and special projects.
Enhance professional teamwork and communication skills: Work collaboratively with the Building Engineering team, follow instructions effectively, and communicate clearly in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Qualifications
  • Interns must be currently enrolled as students at an accredited institution, which may include trade schools, community/junior colleges, or undergraduate or graduate programs
  • Interest in live events, sports facilities, venue operations, or a related field of study/interest.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, take feedback, and follow safety instructions from trained staff.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with a positive attitude toward helping others.
  • Ability to stay organized, manage time effectively, and ask questions when clarification is needed.
  • Comfortable performing physical tasks such as lifting heavy ojects, exposure to multiple external elements, exposure to loud noises, standing for long periods of time, walking long distances, climbing, and working in a hands on setting, comfortable working in close quarters and small spaces.
  • Prior experience in sports, entertainment, or another operational role is helpful but not required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
