Remote Cultural Resources Specialist – Montana Site Forms

Project: Bridger Pipeline Expansion Location: Remote Employment Type: Temporary/Contract Openings: 1–2

Job Description

We are seeking one to two experienced Cultural Resources Specialists to complete archaeological site forms and potentially assist with technical reporting for the Bridger Pipeline Expansion project in Montana.

This position may be performed remotely by candidates who demonstrate strong productivity, reliable communication, and the ability to complete assignments independently. Candidates do not need to live in Montana, but direct experience preparing or reviewing Montana archaeological site forms is strongly preferred.

Remote employees must have their own computer, reliable internet access, and an appropriate setup for virtual communication and document preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and update Montana archaeological site forms.

  • Organize and accurately document archaeological site data.

  • Apply National Register of Historic Places evaluation criteria and integrity terminology.

  • Assist with archaeological reports and supporting documentation as needed.

  • Review forms and reports for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.

  • Use ArcGIS Field Maps and project data to verify site locations, boundaries, features, and other information.

  • Edit and manage documents using Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF software.

  • Communicate regularly regarding project progress, questions, and completed assignments.

  • Manage assigned tasks independently and meet established deadlines.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience completing archaeological site forms.

  • Knowledge of National Register of Historic Places eligibility criteria.

  • Understanding of NRHP integrity terminology and the seven aspects of integrity.

  • Cultural resource management, archaeology, historic preservation, or related professional experience.

  • Strong technical writing, editing, and documentation skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF software, and ArcGIS Field Maps.

  • Reliable communication and ability to meet project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience completing or reviewing Montana Cultural Site Record forms.

  • Familiarity with Montana SHPO standards and documentation requirements.

  • Previous cultural resources experience in Montana or the Northern Plains.

  • Pipeline, energy, transportation, or other linear-infrastructure project experience.

  • Experience preparing NRHP eligibility recommendations.

  • Experience contributing to archaeological survey, testing, or site-evaluation reports.

  • Familiarity with historic and precontact archaeological resources in Montana.

Remote-Work Requirements

  • Personal computer capable of running the software needed for the assignment.

  • Reliable high-speed internet connection.
