IU Health is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified OB Hospitalist to join our established labor & delivery team, providing comprehensive inpatient obstetric care, managing antepartum and postpartum patients, supporting midwives, and responding to OB emergencies within an advanced, contemporary facility.
Position Highlights
  • 168 shifts annually (mix of 12-hour days and nights, or can be structured into 24-hour shifts depending on team preference).
  • Provide continuous inpatient obstetric care on Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, and Postpartum units.
  • Serve as operative backup for CNMs, including support for operative vaginal delivery, advanced laceration repair, and cesarean sections.
  • Support the OBED during periods of high volume or acuity.
  • Evaluate and manage consults from the ED and inpatient units.
  • Perform key obstetric procedures including SVD, operative vaginal deliveries, VBAC management, and C-sections.
  • Participate in urgent nighttime GYN surgeries when needed, with GYN backup available.
  • Optional teaching opportunities with rotating medical students.

Healthcare System/Hospital Description
The new IU Health Bloomington Hospital and Regional Academic Health Center, part of the Indiana University Health Medical Group, opened in December 2021. The facility offers a personalized approach to inpatient services (including intensive care, complex surgeries and comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology services), outpatient services with leading-edge diagnostic testing, flexible space in the emergency department for post-care observation, a dedicated trauma center and a cancer infusion center.
At the same time, the facility strengthens healthcare education by providing space for collaboration and coordination of care and teaching. Students and trainees frequently come to the hospital side of the facility for clinical experiences.
