Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Level II Emergency Department position requiring TNCC certification and a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience.

Details
  • Work in a 71-bed, high-acuity Level II Emergency Department that functions at a Level I capacity
  • Patient population includes multi-system trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric cases
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 (ER), 1:5 (MS holds), 1:3 (ICU holds)
  • Specialized skills utilized include trach care, vent care, ICU drip management, chest tube, art line, CVL, PICC, midline, port, Foley, splint/ortho device application, BiPAP/hi-flow oxygen, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • EMR: Cerner (experience preferred); IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs
  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00p–7:00a), 36 hours per week
  • Additional shift times available: 11a–11p, 3p–3a
  • Every other weekend rotation required, or 4 weekend days per month on a block schedule
  • No floating required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • 4-week scheduling cycle
Requirements
  • Active AL or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and Secure/CPI (nationally recognized/JACHO accepted)
  • First-time travelers must have at least 2 years of experience, Cerner or Epic EMR experience, and Level II Trauma or higher experience
  • Experienced travelers must have at least 2 years of critical care experience (ICU, ER, or MS hold) with the most recent year in a Level II or higher ED; Cerner or Epic experience preferred
  • Proficiency with trach care, vent management, ICU drips, chest tubes, arterial lines, CVL, PICC, midline, port access, Foley catheter, BiPAP/hi-flow, and continuous bladder irrigation required
  • One professional reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months required for consideration
  • DOB (day and month) required for consideration
  • Full SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Unit support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy (available until 3:00a), IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
  • New travelers to the facility and return travelers absent for 1 or more years will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation followed by 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation for rehires is determined based on time since last assignment
  • One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy is expected; holiday scheduling is not guaranteed in advance
  • Blackout dates (RTO not approved) in 2026 include: 1/19–20, 2/13–16, all of March, 4/18–20, 5/10–12, 5/24–26, 6/14–16, 7/3–6, 8/30–9/1, 10/30–11/2, 11/26–30, and 12/21–1/1
  • Up to 7 days of time off may be approved, excluding blackout dates
  • Scrub color: any solid color
  • Parking garage available on site
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
  • An interview is required as part of the selection process
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they meet the stated experience requirements
