Job description

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT), an employee-owned consultant engineering firm, is seeking a Land Surveyor - LSIT to join our Team in the Rockville, MD office.  This candidate will work on both Field and Office Survey assignments.

The position will entail working in a dual role to perform both field and office survey assignments.  The survey field assignments will include establishing GNSS and convention survey control networks and topographic/boundary data collection.  The office assignments will include performing survey control network adjustments, LiDAR and data collection processing, survey computations, preparation of topographic and boundary surveys, as-built surveys, and easement plats.    The candidate will be required to have prior experience and be proficient in performing both field and office survey work, as well as preparation of finish survey drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley software platforms.   Candidate will have current LSIT certification or be able to obtain LSIT certification within 1 year.

Salary is: $35.00 - $40.00 / hour based on education and experience.  Excellent Work / Life Balance opportunity.  Candidate must live within commuting distance to the Rockville, MD office location.  

Responsibilities
  • Field Survey
    • Perform survey party chief responsibilities as a 1 person or 2 person crew
    • Perform field data collection for boundary and topographic surveys
    • Operate robotic total station, GPS RTK rover, digital level, and data collector
    • Document daily notes, records, and sketches using iPad and Survey 123 application
  • Office Survey
    • Perform survey task set-up and prepare supporting field survey exhibits
    • Perform survey computations for traverse adjustments and deed composites
    • Perform data processing of topographic and boundary survey data collection files
    • Prepare topographic and boundary survey finished drawings
    • Perform property deed and plat research
    • Prepare easements and right-of-way plats and legal descriptions
    • Other duties as assigned by the survey project manager
Qualifications
    • 5 years or more surveying experience  
    • 2- or 4-year survey or engineering degree preferred
    • Current LSIT certification or be able to obtain LSIT certification within 1 year
    • Proficiency in field surveying procedures and ability to operate GPS, robotic total station and data collector
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation InRoads or OpenRoads, and other CAD platforms and software
    • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite software packages
    • Positive attitude and professional bearing
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
