Job description

*** Recruiters please do not contact, this is a direct hire for Cleveland Tool***

This is not a button-pusher position. You will be the primary expert for our HAAS VF4SS (Super Speed VMC) and our HAAS ST25Y (Y-axis lathe with live tooling). You will handle everything from pulling CAD files to final part inspection for complex, custom machinery components.

You will also work closely with our Engineering Manager and the rest of the mechanical engineering team to provide design-for-manufacturability (DFM) feedback and ensure a seamless transition from screen to spindle.

Key Responsibilities

  • CNC Programming: Generate efficient, crash-free G-code using GibbsCAM. Must be proficient in high-speed machining (HSM) toolpaths for the VF4SS and Mill-Turn/live-tooling programming for the ST25Y.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Retrieve the latest approved CAD files directly from our SolidWorks PDM Pro vault and communicate with the engineering team to optimize part designs for machining.
  • Advanced Setup: Perform complex setups on Haas controls, including indicating in live tools, managing Y-axis offsets, and selecting the correct high-performance toolholders to leverage the VF4SSโ€™s 12,000 RPM direct-drive spindle.
  • Prove-Out & Production: Safely run first-article parts, optimize feeds and speeds at the control, and run production batches while maintaining tight tolerances.
  • Quality Control: Perform rigorous in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement tools to ensure parts meet drawing specifications.
  • Machine Maintenance: Oversee basic preventative maintenance and daily care of the Haas equipment.
  • Plus other assigned tasks by management

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 5+ years of cradle-to-grave CNC machining experience (Programming, Setup, and Operation).
  • Software: Strong proficiency in GibbsCAM is strictly required. Experience navigating SolidWorks PDM to check out files is a major plus.
  • Equipment: Extensive experience with Haas controls. Must have proven experience setting up and operating Y-axis lathes with live tooling (ST25Y or similar) and high-speed VMCs.
  • Technical Skills: Deep understanding of GD&T, advanced workholding strategies, and modern cutting tool selection.
  • Mindset: Self-starter who thrives in a custom manufacturing environment and takes extreme pride in their spindle uptime and part quality.
