Job description

Full-Time Handyman/Houseman (Live-Out)

Location: The Hamptons, NY (East Hampton)
Schedule: Full-time, year-round, with overtime as needed. During the summer months when the principals are in residence, the schedule typically begins earlier (around 7:00 AM) and requires greater flexibility to support household needs. The off-season is slower, with later start times and a focus on maintenance and preparation.
Compensation: $100,000-$120,000 annually with bonus, plus benefits package.

A private family is seeking an experienced, proactive, and hands-on Handyman/Houseman to oversee the maintenance and operation of their seasonal estate in the Hamptons. This long-term opportunity involves a 25,000-square-foot main residence. The role is highly hands-on during the summer when the family is in residence, focusing on daily maintenance, errands, and ensuring the property runs seamlessly. During the off-season, the focus shifts to preventative maintenance, repairs, property monitoring, and preparing the estate for the family’s return. The Houseman will work closely with the House Manager, who oversees the housekeeping team, and the private Chef. The ideal candidate is a true handyman who can complete most repairs independently while coordinating vendors when necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance across all properties.

  • Conduct regular walkthroughs, identifying and resolving maintenance issues proactively.

  • Complete minor repairs, including paint touch-ups, wall scuffs, loose hardware, and general handyman work.

  • Monitor and maintain major home systems, including HVAC, AV, plumbing, lighting, irrigation, pool equipment, and exterior systems.

  • Coordinate and oversee vendors when specialized work is required.

  • Follow household protocols and standard operating procedures.

  • Open and close the estate seasonally, including setting up and storing outdoor and pool furniture.

  • Conduct regular off-season property inspections.

  • Maintain the exterior appearance through light upkeep, including sweeping and brushing off outdoor furniture.

  • Assist with errands, deliveries, and general labor as needed.

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests while the family is in residence.

  • Work collaboratively with the House Manager, Chef, and household staff.

  • Maintain organized maintenance records, tools, supplies, and inventories.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Houseman, Handyman, Estate Maintenance Technician, or in a similar luxury residential role.

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, AV, irrigation, and general property maintenance.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs independently while knowing when to engage vendors.

  • Hands-on, mechanically inclined, and proactive with excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Professional, discreet, trustworthy, and service-oriented.

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a household team.

  • Spanish speaking is a plus
