About This Role

This position is ideal for a teacher of young children who is not only professionally prepared but also a mature and sensitive individual with a warm and friendly personality. The selected candidate must be able to relate well to children, adults, and the community in which the children live. A background check and current physical/TB test are required for this position.


What You'll Do

Responsibilities of the Assistant Teacher

Under the direction of the teacher, the Assistant Teacher will assist in planning and implementing the daily program. This includes setting up interest centers, preparing needed material and supplies, and planning and arranging all necessary teaching materials.

The Assistant Teacher will also supervise the classroom when the teacher is out of the room, taking full responsibility for the group and the program. They will help with general housekeeping tasks, assist the teacher with other tasks as needed, and maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the school.

In addition, the Assistant Teacher will treat all children with dignity and respect, attend staff meetings and training programs, participate in professional organizations, and share pertinent information with the Executive Director.

The Assistant Teacher will also be responsible for keeping the classroom in order, maintaining records as indicated, and performing any other duties assigned by the Executive Director.

PLACEMENT: Placement will be designated by the Executive Director and subject to change.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be able to relate well to children, adults, and community in which the children live.
  • Be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy.
  • Warm and friendly personality.
  • Sensitive to the feelings and needs of others.
  • Present evidence of activity pursuing further preparation.
  • Hold an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and have 1 year of working experience with young children.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Assisting the teacher in any other appropriate tasks.
  • Maintaining professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times.
  • Keeping the classroom in order and the equipment and supplies in good condition.
  • Assisting in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed material and supplies. Plan and arrange all necessary teaching material with the teacher.
  • Assisting in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Teacher.
  • Supervising the classroom when the teacher is out of the room. Assume full responsibility for the group and the program in the absence of the teacher.
  • Helping with the general housekeeping tasks.
  • Maintain records as indicated.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Attending all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences and partaking in all day care/preschool events.
  • Participating in professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education.
  • Share with the Executive Director, pertinent information obtained through contact with parents.
  • Treating all children with dignity and respect.
