Brand BUILD Summer Program Instructor (BBSPI) (40 hours, Full-time) Non-exempt
BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago's West Side. Since 1969, BUILD has worked to save lives and mentor young people who live in the city's most challenged neighborhoods. Brand BUILD Summer Program Instructor is responsible for developing and facilitating summer arts programming for youth that includes opportunities to explore jewelry making, 3-D modeling, textile and fashion design, and more. This role involves mentoring youth, helping them develop entrepreneurship skills, and providing opportunities for them to showcase and sell their artwork at various events. The position reports directly to the Manager of STEAM Education. The instructor will assist the Manager with administrative tasks related to our partnerships with Afterschool Matters and other grant-funded programs and assists with participant recruitment and enrollment.
Responsibilities are but not limited to:
Program Development and Facilitation:
  • Design, implement, and facilitate engaging arts programs that cover jewelry making, 3-D modeling, textile and fashion design.
  • Create a curriculum that integrates skill-building, creativity, and entrepreneurial principles.
  • Develop and manage program schedules, ensuring they align with organizational goals and youth needs.

Mentorship and Relationship Building:
  • Provide individual and group mentoring to youth participants, fostering a supportive and positive learning environment.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with youth, offering guidance and support in their artistic and entrepreneurial endeavors.

Entrepreneurship and Sales Opportunities:
  • Guide youth in developing their own business plans and creating marketable products.
  • Organize and oversee opportunities for youth to showcase and sell their artwork at BUILD events, pop-up shops, and online platforms.

Administrative and Grant Management:
  • Complete administrative tasks related to BUILD's partnerships with Afterschool Matters and other grant-funded initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of program activities, participant progress, and financial transactions.

Recruitment and Enrollment:
  • Assist with recruitment efforts to attract and retain youth participants in the Brand BUILD program.
  • Collaborate with marketing and outreach teams to ensure enrollment targets are met and the program reaches its intended audience.

Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the Enrichment Team to align program activities with organizational goals and strategies.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in arts education, youth development, or a related field. Experience in mentoring or working with diverse youth populations is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in various art forms, such as jewelry making, 3-D modeling, textile and fashion design. Demonstrates the ability and desire to learn new mediums.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong mentorship and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with youth.
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities. Ability to use technology and enter daily attendance into Cityspan and other databases as required.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A genuine commitment to empowering youth through arts education and entrepreneurship. Enthusiasm for fostering creativity and supporting youth development.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods (up to 6-8 hours per day) during program hours, workshops, and/ or activities.
  • Assist with setting up and moving program materials, supplies, and equipment as needed.
